Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

I want to try downloading and adding on my first aircraft. Can someone recommend an aircraft to start with. I am moving up from the Cessna 172. I suppose this is like asking which is the better car to buy but any help appreciated.
Pat.

If you want freeware go to

AVSim or

FlightSim or

Flight Sim NZ

Once downloaded unzip and place the file that has model, texture etc into the aircrats folder for your flight sim

Note: For AVSim and flightsim.com you need to register. However you DO NOT have to register for flight sim nz

Thanks for that. I have searched those lists before and what I really wanted was a recommendation of which aircraft to progress to after the Cessna 172. Also, a download that will not give me grief on my first attempt!!!.

What kind of aircraft do you want??

A good aircraft that is between a jet and a small plane is the ATR-72 found under aircraft on Flight sim

hmm thats tough your defalut king air is the best to advance to after the 172, but download an IFDG A320 or something to practice installing.

First open the downloaded file with winRAR or winzip, open the file that says IFDG A320 etc.. there should be 5 folders and some other stuff, the foldrs reading effects, model, texture, panel and sound. open the effects folder and copy and paste ALL files in this folder to your fs9/effects folder. ( on my computer it can be found at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Effects ) the same would happen with gauges, paste them to gauges folder . Then back up 2 steps, back to where yo have the folder IFDG A320 etc... copy and paste this to you fs9.aircraft folder.
Then start up FS9 and it should be there!

Thanks but perhaps a leap to a Jet may be a bit much for me at this stage.

personally (i know some will concur) i'd try this package:

http://airhead.hfdd.com

it comes as a self-installer too ;)

there are many aircraft (Free) that match the quality of this, quality is what keeps me interested a lot of the time...

I wrote an article on Alex's NZFS website for beginers on installing addon aircraft, scenery, panels, sounds and AI too I think. for the aircraft one I used the posky 737-9 as the example and wrote some basic explanations of what l the aircraft files are there for..

The NZFS isn't loading up for me.. you could try, im prety sure its www.nzfs.co.nr, might not be thow.. So if you have a look in the articles section my tutorials are there, writen for the very purpose of begginers to installing addons. ;)

Hope this helps ya Pato

Hi James,
I can't get the www.nzfs.co.nz to load so perhaps it wasn't that site that your tutorials appeared?.

I tried "nr" then "nz" but it looks like it is no longer available. Thanks anyway.
