787 passes 500 orders

Boeing in a press release this morning said...

"The JAL order for five 787-8 airplanes, in addition to several orders from unidentified customers, brings the 787's order total to 514 airplanes from 43 customers since its launch on April 26, 2004, making it the fastest-selling commercial aeroplane in history. This increases JAL's total 787 order to 35 airplanes from their previous order of 30 in December 2004."

Quite an achievement for an aircraft that doesn't even exist yet. Having said that, Boeing also announced the 1st 787 will roll from the production line on the 7th July 07, so in the US Calendar thats 7/8/7. Nice.

Its August then, the end game is it will be rolled out on 7/8/7 in the US. Clearly it was to early in the day for me to count months

No idea, those sorts of details are between Boeing and the customers.

I somehow got on Boeing's World Design Team, along with many millions of others, and it's been an interesting ride to watch the Dreamliner develop.
Boeing has really listened to its users, which include, for a change, the guys in cattle class at the back of the tube.
It's going to be a very special aircraft, see more here about Boeing's plans.

It will be rolled the 8th July 07 won't it? - the Americans read their dates the reverse that we do so if it is rolled out on the 7/8/7 it wil be July the 8th 2007.

My prediction is that Air New Zealand will replace the remaining 767s (they intend to keep 5 in the meantime)and roll over their entire 777-200 fleet and replace the lot with 787-9s and also replace all their 747s with 777-300ERs. You could see a Air NZ wide body fleet in say 10 years of about 15 777-300ERs and 20 787-9s.

They can't be that conservative being the launch customer for the 787-9. You probably can bet on a narrow body Air NZ Airbus fleet though (although Boeing is working on a 737 replacement so you never know).
