good on ya jimmy - they're just cars - some machine you get into to go somewhere else ( preferably to an airport) - been drivin them 30 odd years and still don't care who made it or what the o'head double twisting super revved dingle whatsit is! - it's not like they are finely machined master pieces of engineering embued with the spirit of the the designers and the love of the builder for the pure pleasure of the pilot - like an AIRCRAFT ! :)

such as?

Toyota Aristo V300/3.0V, Toyota Chaser/Mark II/Cresta Tourer V if you want a sedan....The Aristo 3.0v was lapped against the Bmw M5 and Merc (something?) at tsukuba and was faster around the track there (it was an auto trans too)

The Chaser, from the early 1990's was a mid 5 second 0-100kmh car and has far superior handling, reliability, quality, fuel efficiency etc......What was Ford or Holden doing then?

The Toyota Crown Athlete pumps put 232 kw from its 3.5l V6....The SV6 Holden only manages 195 KW from a 3.6l V6. The XR6 is slower to 100kmh than the Camry too from memory

I used to own a TT Soarer....I timed that as a 6.1 or .2 second 0-100kmh sprint (and my car had 180K on it and was auto). Wasnt the Monaro only about that?

Here's a vid i made of my old Soarer http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... +Soarer+NZ

Im not a huge Nissan fan (and its not really fair comparing a 2 door to a 4 four door) but the Z-Tune R34 GTR is a weapon....

Both are great cars - I own a 2004 XR6, but have never got into the Holden vs Ford debate.

Always cracks me up when people go on about the V8's and which is better. After a 1000 km race one beats the other by 2 or 3 seconds, that seems pretty even odds to me !!

As for big cars using more fuel - that is an interesting one - I get less than 10 litre per 100km on trips and since owning the car have averaged 11.9 l per 100 km. OK not the most fuel efficient, but probably beats a lot of older vehicles and I only do about 12,000 km a year.

Picked this beauty up a year ago for less than 1/2 price of new model with 25,000 k's on the clock - a lot of car for the price.

I feel very fortunate to be able to own such a vehicle.

my guess it's a 4-speed auto
the new BF MkII XR6 Falcon is equipped with a six speed auto, apparantly more fuel efficient than the equivilant Commodore too

can't wait to see what the 2008 Falcon looks like B-)

I like the Ford's looks over the Holden ( :ph43r: ). And thats about the only difference really. If I were to choose a car, I would choose neither of the above.

Cars are one of my other passions (dosen't show in the cars I have though).

Nice XR-6 Deane.

I am fairly neutral when it comes to Holdens v Fords and it depends where they are in the model cycle. I think the lower end Holdens below the Commodore are rubbish though especially compared to the Focus/Mondeo etc

The Falcon (especially the XR-6 & XR-6T) was one of my favourites until the new Commie came out and I guess that willl change again when the new Falcon is out. One of my favourties now is the Commodore SS although been a family man I guess the Ford Territory Turbo maybe a better proposition (if I win Lotto!).

In terms of cars in racing, Id have to go with Ford. Holden has no REAL history behind it. Has Holden won LeMans 4 times in a row? I dont think so! GT40, Escort, Cortina, Mustang. These are only some of the cars that have made Ford the greatest. Fords racing devision built the Cosworth DFV in 1966/67, an engine which was still in use in F1 into the 80s. Not many other manufacturers can claim these sort of achievements. I had a 1981 Escort for a little while, the most fun I have ever had behind the wheel of a car. But really, in terms of the Aussie V8s, I just enjoy the racing :D

True, if i HAD to pick id go with a Ford (something about pushrods just doesnt do it for me)

As for the Ford and Holden V8 'Supercars'....when one wins over the other, the only thing that you can really say about it is 'A race car with a Ford/Holden badge that vaguely looks like the road car won the race'....they use the same engines, same floor pans/suspension etc etc....i dont understand the intense fan rivalry when the race cars are pretty much identical.

hahahahahahaha not again I have this argument every year with my brother(ford lover) over Bathurst and Pukekohe with it nearly ending in a fist fight 99% of the time all I can say is my broken finger and 2 smashed knuckles wasnt over the V8's but the result of a drunkin disorderly fight with a super cheap auto wall now take a stab in the dark at who came out better off lol sure wasnt my hand hahahahaha.

Hmmmm interesting my favourite driver raced for Super Cheap Auto under Paul Weel Racing.
