Its either: A) Trying to get to the top floor to let those passengers out or b) one of those new Mexican 'Old skool' airbridges with hoppity-hydraulics...(keep an eye out for one in the background of 50 cents new video)

It might be
A) M$ making a medium sized jetway "compatible" with heavys
B) A great camera angle or
C) A glitch

That is all that i can come up with

Maybe it is becuase I am not at a heavy gate,

Jon it's your 747 so it can't be the aircraft

And I haven't done anything to my jetways ( I don't think ;) )

So it must be becuase I was not at a heavy gate

It's not the aircraft, and I doubt its the gate given it extended to the right height.

The jetway is a standard model used on all the gates so it wouldnt change its animation, so if it is the gate type then thats interesting.

i dout it would be something with the jetway. I reckon it is a glitch. Can you tell what Airpot and gate that it is at and i will try it.

Oh heavy's can only be connceted by a heavy gate. 737's etc. can be connected by heavy gates and smaller.

It has happened at KL airport with the overland 747 so I thought I would try it with the defualt 747 at YSSY, but I don't tink it was a heavy gate I just slewed to any gate.

So you might want to try it with a Medium or small gate

Good it all worked out, but I've never had that problem before at NZWN or at NZCH or NZAA

Didn't Singapore or someone land a 74 at WN once?

United did, it was a 742. There have been a few others as well when NZAA shut down and NZCH couldnt take them for some reason. You'd think Ohakea would be a safer option.

They often use Ohakea as a divert.

The only "HEAVY" aircraft that I know of that have been into Wellington are the 767's Qantas's 747SP's and the BA777

What about the RNZAF 757s? Or would they be under 300k pounds?

Also I thought they would prefer NZWn as an alternate as they have more facilities, the pax can't leave the aircraft at NZOH ae?

I think one of the reasons that they use Ohakea is that they can have a bigger operating room e.g. longer runway Wellington can not take the 744, or the A340-X I don't think, also they not going to clog up apron space at Wellington and delay other flights

Wellington once had a diverted flight from Christchurch
Wikipedia wrote:In spite of the short runway and frequent winds, there have been very few safety incidents at the airport. However, in 1991 a United Airlines Boeing 747 made an unscheduled landing after its original destination, Christchurch Airport, was closed by fog. [8] [16] Although the plane landed safely, all passengers and freight had to be offloaded before it was able to take off again.

Here is the "original" site.
I would have loved to see a video of that landing
