Have you re-installed?

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Its a dreaded thing to have to do- reinstalling FS with your countless number of addons.

I'm just wondering what % of us kiwi simmers have been faced with this task here?

I'm on the verge of my 2nd re-install, trying desperately to fix my sim by other means, without having to do the unthinkable as a last resort...

I had to reinstall FS9 twice. The second time I took the opportunity to "reinstall" onto a new PC. Both times it took literally weeks before it was back to a state where I was comfortable with it and everything worked & looked just right. Also, both times I left off a bunch of addons that I either didn't like or wasn't using.

Fortunately I've not yet had to reinstall FSX.

Reinstalled FS9 once. I got FSX and thought it was the best thing in the world, but then I really wanted the Capsim C130, so I had to reinstall FS9.

i am in the process of reinstalling fs9 at the present moment of time
In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.

The more you do it, the better you get.
Latest was a migration onto a new computer.
Great experience, you network them and then pick out all the goodies from the previous round, and dump the rubbish.

Four (or maybe five) times since FS9 was first released. Usually because I have to reformat my HD (could never be bothered with System Restore; besides it takes up too much space on a 40Gb HD which can be used for more important things ... like scenery. )

FSX only once, but it seems FS9 needs a reinstall.

I've never ever reinstalled FS9. It does have a tidy-up occasionally, though, and I'm pretty careful what I do to it. I figure it took me so long to get it working well it'd be crazy to start over.

Hmmm... I think I have reinstalled FS9 10 or 15 times. Mostly due to problems with files and other things. Last time I did it was becuase I got a new HDD and then installed FS9 on it. I was tied of the huge bundle of sceneries and aircraft I had installed and which I never used. So I decided to make a "format D:" and then start from scratch. Including all my AI traffic (more then 500 airlines). I also started with only the best AI-models available and then installing the best repaints to the models. So now I have a great AI flying around.

Now I only (mostly) have installed sceneries I uses often, and the same with my aircrafts. Only the most used are installed. So it's actually good with a new-formatted HDD. Getting rid of the old and not worthy things, and only use the best.

I've well and truly lost count how many reinstalls of FS I've done now. Not all FS addons are compatable with everything else.
Sometimes there's a virus in a freeware file that plays merry hell with your sim.
It does give you a chance to have a clean out of planes you never fly and sceneries you never use too.
Lately some addon stole my GPS so after days of trying everything I could think of I finally gave in and did a reinstall to find my radios had been stolen! Another reinstall and this time all is well!
I'm rather more careful now with adding addons!
Remember to delete the main CFG too otherwise you don't get a true 'reinstall' this is why upon reinstall my radios were missing, the CFG was somehow corrupted.
The funny thing was I did try just replacing the CFG to try and fix the initial problem but had no luck so had to do the reinstall.
2 wrongs don't make a right but 2 Wrights made an aeroplane!
