The Official America's Cup Thread

Whoa, hey. Relax! I never said I didn't support TNZ, I've got up early to watch the 7am replays every morning to support them. Nothing I like more than to see a NZ team performing on the world stage.

All I'm saying is that for the sport of America's Cup Class racing, the event would be better off in Europe. Better TV coverage for a bigger audience, better for sponsors and more teams competing e.g. Great Britian Challenge next time (some current syndicates have said they won't come to NZ if it's held here again). It's a commercial reality from a purely objectve standpoint.

Don't get me wrong, I personally like to see the cup back in Auckland, heck it'd be exciting to go down to the viaduct after work once I start working in the CBD, enjoy the sights and sounds of a be able to see the entire viaduct lit up with the atmosphere of a world sporting event.

Well on that note I will let you off my hooks this time, and hear hear to the Viaduct pumping in The Great Auckland City of Sails.

No! not nothing, some people actually have a valid opinion and I was only just warming up. But in your case you should think about keeping it to yourself.

Doesnt matter, fact is that Team NZ is the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. They will want it in nz. And who would want cr@p teams like China Team and the like. Just coz the are sponsored by Emirates doesnt mean that it is going to be held in dubai.
Emirates doesnt make arsenal play home games in dubai!!!

Part of the deal when the government put in there $80 mil was that if we won it would have to be held back here as the point of the government money was that they would then get the injection into the economy if it were to come back here. Currently Emirates would like the team to do some training in dubai but this has not yet happened due to the cost of moving everything there just for a couple of training sessions.

My sources, a member sailing on the boat, that if they win the Cup, is that it will be sailed again on the Hauraki Gulf and that plans have already tentively been drawn up as to how to reassemble and modify and extend the Viaduct for a proposal to be handed to the Auckland Harbour Board.

I bet they'll hold pre-regattas in Dubai, regardless of whether Team NZ or Alinghi win. It's the centre of the world these days and the weather's similar to Valencia

I stayed up to the third marker and me eyes dropped and i was crashed for the rest of the night /morning.
i see the defenders have step up to the plate  but there are still more to go and with some good wind breaks and some great tacking we can be right back there in the cup .... >nzflag< >nzflag< >nzflag<

Alinghi seem to be scarily fast downwind, we're going to need a pretty decent breaks to haul them in.
