Mesh

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby vatsim-aholic » Sat Jun 09, 2007 3:36 pm

Is there much difference between the 2 in FS9?

Will 20Mesh work with all the godzone scenery?

If possible could someone post a pic of the same place in both meshes to see the difference, say Wellington for instance.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this

You can see comparisons at http://www.geographx.co.nz/.

I have the 75m mesh and all the freeware godzone scenerys and the real new zealand NZTG and wellington work fine,im prety sure the Real New Zealand scenery is designed to be used with the 75m mesh, otherwise why would it come on the Wellington CD :P

Godzone scenery works well with 75, works best with 20 metre.

I figured it works with 75m as thats what I have now and works fine will the whole series of payware godzone, but as always im after total perfection. Just interested to see wether its worth going to 20m and how much it will effect the scenery.

That link only shows a comparison from standard MSFS to 20m, and you can see a big difference, but hard to see any between 75m and 20m.

I have the 20m mesh. A lot of the deafault airports get their runways buried etc but the following scenery works for me

Robin's Auckland (and the freeware Auckland 2005 package) Wellington, Tauranga, Rotorua, Wanaka, Tekapo and Kaikoura

Peter Lohr's Mt Cook & Queenstown

Ian's Invercargill, Chrischurch & Nelson

Savern's Hamilton

Cheers

I think there is a pdf that comes with the 75m mesh that has pictures of the difference between the 75m and 20m mesh?

first thing i do after a reinstall is install the 75 freeware mesh, makes shuch an improvement over the default
In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose.

Hi Vatsim

There is a downloadeable pdf with some comparison shots and there aslo is a shot comparing the Remarkables here: www.redbarent.com

There is a big difference in the mountains. For example, chasing up Franz Josef or Fox glacier in a chopper doesn't compare. Also, I find that the 20m mesh is more immersive, it feels a lot more like you're really there. But that's just my opinion.

Definitely- Ive found the higher the resolution of the mesh, the better the 'feeling' of height.....Rounded hills and valleys using a low resolution grid just dont give that feeling

I like the idea of being immersed in the scenery, but i also luv height.

Have been reading this thread Here and just realised how complicated this all is. I was going to ask if there was a mess less than 20, but it appears that this isn't just a simple install and your done, so if you want to keep existing scenery perfect stick with 75m

Has someone created a fix for this now, or is it still case and if so out of 10, is it worth it actually doing?

your thoughts

If you can afford Robin's scenery as well I say yes as you will have plenty of airports to fly around. It does become a bit more limited if you only install freeware airports. Not all the default airports have problems - a few airports that I know that are fine with the 20m mesh off the top of my head are New Plymouth, Taupo and Palmerston North.

One other freeware airport I didn't mention above that works well in the 20m mesh is Robin's Timaru. Plus you now have the option of all the Marlborough airports.

Yes have installed all Robins scenery and now just waiting for the mail man to hand me Marlborough package. Was concerned about all the out of the way places I like to fly to, that won't feel real anymore.
