For Fun for me. The probability of me being a pilot is currently 10%.

Well im a both kinda guy aswell ,
if i was to pick training id wanta be having fun doing it or there would be no real point to me in continuing in that line of work ,now on the other hand i like the sim and brought it for fun ,but found out very soon it was something i wanted to build stuff for and learn more about gaming formats ie .not doing licences etc.. all the time having lots of fun
so what to pick im doing both ?
i pick fun and training because they go together in one way or another

Do it for fun. People call it a "simulator" I call it a game :)

Microsoft game studios made it therefore it is a game, not to be taken seriously for real-life or serious training :plane: Fun all the way! Because Kelburn says in real-life that its so unrealistic, therefore i'd say its pretty pathetic for anything real-life, as hes pretty hard-out

yes made by gamers programers and input from real life pilots ,the reason it was made by gamers is because it could only be made by gamers ,they are trying to get 2004 cert as a training sim here in NZ for westpac and ive heard of other storys of simuliar goings on around the world ,now how about the ones at the flight training places ?
are they not just game aswell then ? built by gamers and programers at a cost of like millions for the airline pilots of the world ..
is it a game or a sim ,it does say a simulator doesnt it
on the other hand the same guys that race f1 cars train on ps2 games /simulators then they go around at 300kph trusting that we put that corner in the right place for them

Actually, the IFR on flight sim is pretty damn accurate... :ph43r: The VFR is another story (not for long with thinks like Real NZ etc..) The way the sim models IFR flight, is damn impressive. Having used real world IFR approach charts and then flying them in the sim, I can say that its almost 100% realistic.

Alister AKA , 'Albatross' will have a better insite to the use of FlightSim as a training aid for the real time pilots , Flight Experience use's MicroSoft FlightSim and Robins paywares for real crew familnarise and prodedure training for the 73 and is CAA approved ... :) guess u better go and pay for a flight then start making a better judgement , myself had 5 hours flying the orginal 767 sim by FlightEX with ANZ training Captian Dave Hornsbough beside me ..... is as close as u are going to get for most !

Come to think , I have a date myself with the 73 in a month :D 1.5 hr what am i going to do

I for one use it for fun. I mean, it's the closest I can get for a few years to flying certain types, and the closest I'll EVER get for others - eg the Vimy.

I love the fact that there are so many machines available for download/purchase - you can realise your dreams for next to no cost! AND you don't have to worry about damaging the aircraft...anyone for a Keith Skilling-style Corsair display in their 747?

Yea Id have to agree, Some of the BASIC IFR side is really good, although it could never get to 100%, stuff like real turbulance an its effects is way above the game. AS for the rest, well i dont believe its very realistic as it is really just a game, but still, it is dam fun !

I use IFR side for practice and the rest for FUN ! Soooooooooooo much you can get away with on flightsim that you just cant in real life

I too have flown the Flight Experiance Simulator, NZCH-NZWN very much like it would be done in real life, and with a great FO, how more realistic could ya get. :D

Flight simulator is a simulation. In my opinion it is only a game with it is treated as one, the realisum is with the user. I could fly dct GPS across the atlantic in the defualt 734 with "unlimited fuel" and do loop d loop followed by yet anothor visual approach to the nearest longish looking peice of concrent. Or I could spend weeks learning about the NAT procs 9as im doing now) spend an hour planning the fuel before the flight after studying the temp charts, have a 5 page long flight plan and fly it to the nearest realisum possible in the LDS 763.. Just a simple exmaple like that shows very clearly what I mean, I hope.

FS is very versitile, its a tool as much as its a simulation, use it realisticly and learn while your at it and its a woudnerful training aid.

And I also have a hell of alot of fun with Flight Simulator, really if it wasn't for the fun of hitting the disenge bar and heaing "down the chute" in IMC for example or heading out over a ocean (okay we don't all find thrill in 4 hour ocean crossing do we :P ) , then why would we spend our free time doing it? :D

Its one of those great things, learn and have fun, no debate about it!
