FS2004

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby captainherc » Sun Aug 19, 2007 10:22 am

Hi. New to this forum and wanting some advice.
I have recently started flying on FS2004.
Can I get the aircraft to start a flight from outside the terminal and not at the start end of the runway.
Cheers.

Yip, when you select an airfield to fly out of, there should be a little drop-down box where you can choose different gates, ramps (thats the US word for aprons I guess) and runways.

hi, welcome aboard, when you start a flight you select the airport from which you want to fly from, down the bottom left of that window, there will ba a drop down menu that has active runway in ti, if you select the drop down you will get different options, start from a particular end of the runway or from the gate or parking, it will be displayed as gate1(heay), gate2(small) etc, hope this helps

I would also say that there seems to be very little logic to some of the starting positions... sometimes gates which are numerically adjacent in the dropdown list (eg. Gate 7 and 8) are not actually next to each other in the FS world!

One way to figure out exactly where each gate/starting location is, is to load up the AFCAD in the AFCAD2 utility and find out what all the starting locations are... this can be easier/quicker than manually testing each starting location and waiting for FS to load the terrain/scenery etc.
