FS9 tweaks and addons

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby creator2003 » Thu Aug 23, 2007 12:16 am

Well as alot of you know my fs9 really is starting to look like fsx ,some of will say nah ,but hold on for a sec dudes ,i spend my alot of time testing what works and what doesnt ,and one thing i can say is alot dont ...
now i like performance just like the next guy but i also love lots of eye candy heaps infact ,so ill start with the addons i know that work and make all the differance for nz and the world ,,
right if you dont own any of Robin corns addons stop buying coffee right now and save and buy them all ,oh and robin how about realeasing all those old godzone photoreal again ??
people ask me where to get that all the time "off topic again "
right if you do own the old stuff install it ,it covers pretty much the whole of NZ and i wont fly without it installed and it does nothing to frame rates ..the next thing to do is get a addon from avsim called treeX this changes all the trees to fsx trees its like only 5 bitmaps replace the old with the new simple ..this adds so many more trees to fs9 it is not funny i just love it,,,and again no frame hits smile.gif
I dont really have to mention RBE do i that is a must if you have 75meter freeware ,stop buying coffee and get 20meter and topo packages also if youd rather buy coffee get the topo and make sure you get the free landclass then ...say no more
ive got some pretty simple but cheap payware that make all the differance ,first would be Zinertek world envoriment this just does wonders to lighting and other stuff ,,
next is the Aero files texture booster packs avalible for fs9 and X this is one of the best addons ive had for along time and again guys no frame hit smile.gif
ive always found that active sky and ground envoriment addons have messed with my setup ,so i dont use them anymore .not saying they are cr@p but just not for me ,
these are just some of the things to get a nice over all look on your old FS9 install .
there are so many more out there freeware and payware ,but some just stuff things up big time ,the ones above i know well and they work and make fs9 look great with all the eye candy ,brown textures and jars are band from my puter i just hate them
if you have any others to add feel free to add them or is there something that doesnt work for you in my list of cool addons ..
if you are wondering why i havent put AI traffic in there ,i dont use it i have friends "M/P",,but if i was to put it in charl and voz would be on my top list

I've never heard of 'Zinertek world envoriment' or 'treeX' but I'll give them a try!

However, I agree with everything else you have said. Robin/Christian/Charl's work make NZ my favourite country to fly in the world of FS, purley because it offers a level of realism no represented through other addons.

My other favourites not mentioned are:
VOZ, A simply amazing package, I can't ramble about it enough. The water textures are particually cool.
and
Real Enviroment Pro, might not be everyones cup of tea, but you can tailor it to suit your needs and it enhances my sim a lot. It has a tree feature that displays three or four more trees that default fs9 does, in the same original location, giving hillsides and forests a more realistic looking feel.

cheer Andrew i had a look at those Real Enviroment Pro textures dude and your 100% right those water textures are sweet ,at the moment craig and i are doing the friday night flights as normal but i did all the tweaks that robin says to do well reckless ones tongue.gif and it worked a buet ,i did the cfg mods like ive done before and it worked better with the 8600gts card this time, plus i installed those real textures to a folder and install what i wanted from the pack ,i decied on the water runways as they looked cool and the aqua pro dark water textures ,,,i had a look at the tree maps and i have to say dude treex is far better ,thank you lawire for that great tip found in all his scenerys addons ,i also put the spotlight texture in and that improves that part on lighting for the aircraft at night ,,,there is so many combos its not funny but all of them seem to make a huge differance to fs9 and all for the better good ....
voz im not much of a fan of ,why well i had all my textures turn red once ,,they proberly dont these days as when i did them it was like there first realease ,never to install again ,i suppose im being a little hard on voz but you know when you get bitten you just dont go back to get bitten twice , when craig and i finsh the world tour ,"in moscow now" we are going to do a run around oz ,yes ill install voz again ,they have put in there work there and are slowly catching up with us but i still think we cover more ,but my opinion and proberly bias ,,Good on you voz for keeping it alive ,,downunder is truly one of the best places to be no matter what side of the tasman New_Zealand_etc.gif

Thinking about the world around the Earth then the Moon is not that "famous" for addons for FS.

I found a great moon on avsim. Search for hdmoon.zip (yes it's a file for FS2002 but it working great in FS2004):

Way better the the default FS moon.

The stars is also rather important for night flying:
http://www.elbiah.de/flusi/MyFsStars/MyFsStars.htm On this site you can download a great new star file. It contains more then 5000 stars!!!

Enjoy your night flying. It's a lot better then before.

Didn't want to start yet another thread with this little tip.
Y'know when you install an aircraft that needs more than CTRL - E to start, but you just want to see how it flies?
Maybe a battery/generator setting or whatever, many helos have this.
Instead of plowing through some manual, do this:
Go into slew mode, and raise the aircraft fractionally off the ground.
Then drop it out of slew.
If it doesn't crash, the engine is running, and you're ready to go.
(I have crash turned off, so I'm a little ham-handed with this).
Saves a bit of wasted effort sometimes.
