A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby captainherc » Sun Aug 26, 2007 10:11 am

Hi again.
I hav recently installed FS2004. at this stage it is still a virgin installation. I have ordered the 5Cd set of NZ airports and NZ 20m topo from geographx. I also have saved the zip of treex for installation. What I need to know is, do i need to install these in any recommended order. Im not sure how to install the zip file as never done this before and not computer savy. The cd's I think come with installation instructions. I'm a non current CPL with IR and intend to do most of my flying around NZ, both VFR and IFR. Are the nav aids in FS the same as actual NZ sites (frequency) so I can use my old maps and app plates. What other addons do you guys recommend to make my NZ even better. ie water, sky (day and night), additional a/c types.
Thanks in advance. plane.gif

Welcome to the world of FS2004 Captainherc biggrin.gif

do i need to install these in any recommended order

You can install them in any order, but you will need to activate them in a different order. Activate Mesh first, then the other sceneries. There are instructions provided on the cds that tell you how to do this.

Im not sure how to install the zip file

That's easy, if you are using Winzip, just double click on it, if not, just right click on the zip file, and 'extract all.' Then you will need to select a place to extract the files to, and it will put them in a normal folder. From there, just install as above.

Are the nav aids in FS the same as actual NZ sites (frequency) so I can use my old maps and app plates

Some of the navaids in the default are pretty bad, but you can download the updated navdata for the NZ area from here. (This may already be included in the 20M mesh, I'm not sure, because I don't own it).

What other addons do you guys recommend to make my NZ even better. ie water, sky (day and night), additional a/c types.

There are a load of threads around on this forum with lists of sceneries, and aircraft for New Zealand. Also, Avsim and flightsim.com are really good places to find addons. If you are looking for decent freeware aircraft, there are, again, a whole load of sites, but the ones with the most boeing/airbus are Project Open Sky, and iFDG.

Hope this helps somewhat smile.gif

actully install all like said ,they will find C/program/microsoft/fs9 and install to there
actvate like matt said ,but read the readme to understand that part more in robin corns nzreal readme manual
activate 20meter mesh first then the topo then the landclass that can be found at RBE ,
The order of scenerys, i fly in auckland more so that gets higher order than the others but thats upto you,, the lower down the list towards the addon scenery and default stuff gets a higher importance to the sim
treeX unzip the zip file and just drag and drop into the texture folder of fs9 "not in addon scenery " there are only five bitmaps and when it say over write the old ones just say yes ...
water well there are lots to look at but there is a tread here that is starting to cover that part of things http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4247
there is so much more in this forum that will help you just search around or ask

Hi,

Just one small word of warning ... please, please, please BACKUP any textures before you overwrite them!!!

Unlike some, I personally dislike the TreesX (way too dark for my tastes) and have been using the .bmp set from Project BlueSphere since it was first released.
Regards,
Dorian

Speaking of weather, I highly recommend ActiveSky. It's a payware product, but it's worth every cent.

Received my 5 CD's from godzone today. Hope to install early next week. Also thinking of installing VOZ. recomendations. Have been to the site, do I need to install all 5 versions. Also I do need more basic HELP on how to install a ZIP file from the Flight sim folder in "my documents" into the main FS204 programme and then where go from there. I have the following files I wish to install. Treex for fs9, MyFsStars-1-0, and airspace. So any kind help appreciated. Cheers.
