Hi. These are my first screenshot images. At present have only got basic scenery. Is this what it looks like with the Geographics mesh 20 and topo installed. If not what do I need to adjust to fix it. Am about to add the Godzone 5 CD's so need all help can get. Thanks.

Pretty good for the first screenshots - a lot better than my first ones!

It is hard to tell from those shots whether you have the topo/mesh set up properly - once you have the Godzone CDs installed it should be clearer or maybe some screen shots around the Alps willl help? What airport is that? - that may give us a better idea whether all is in order.

If you have followed the instructions correctly everything should be in oredr - remember that the terrain vertex should be set at 20m otherwise you won't get the full advantage of the mesh.

I was flying from Rotorua. Have installed the Topo mesh and scenery package. Do not know how to adjust the setting to 20. All and any help welcome.

Go to the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.cfg

Press ctrl+f and search 'TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL' -- change the figure that is there to 20.

isnt that the '40m' mesh setting?? I thought you needed to change it to 21...

Vertex Level

Vertex Level refers to the distance between adjacent East-West or North-South vertices as they are displayed in the scene. As with LOD, increasing Vertex Levels correspond to decreasing distance between the vertices and therefore increased resolution in the displayed object or feature.

The following table shows this relationship:

Vertex Level, Resolution, Equivalent LOD
19, ~76.4m, LOD 9
20, ~38.2m, LOD 10
21, ~19.1m, LOD 11
22, ~9.6m, LOD 12
23, ~4.8m, LOD 13

TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL is the Flight Simulator setting which defines the minimum East-West and North-South distance between adjacent vertices as displayed in the rendered scene in Flight Simulator.

Oops my bad. Yes, if you have the 20m Mesh it will be changed to 21, not 20 winkyy.gif

Thanks for the help guys.
Still having trouble locating the programme.

Is this where I look and if so which file do I access to alter the terrain. Told you I was a novice at this stuff. Rearly want to get the best fom my FS2004so need to learn how to add programmes etc. Whilst on topic of add on's. What is the term AI and is it worth while getting the package that the other screen shot topics are covering on NZ. Looked great and this is where I intend to do most of my flying.About to install realNZ airports etc so need to fix terrain first.Thanks.

The filepath you are wanting is not in the 'program files' or indeed the main FS Folder.

When you go to your C drive, double click on the folder 'Documents and Settings' as opposed to 'Program Files.'

Then click the username that corresponds to yours, and in there should be folders such as 'contacts,' 'desktop,' 'favourites' etc. You will want the folder called 'Application Data.'

I think this may also be a 'hidden folder,' so you will need to enable the viewing of hidden folders.

Click 'Tools' at the top of the screen, and 'Folder Options.'

Click the 'View' tab, and then click 'Show hidden files an folders.'

Then, in the folder under your username, click 'Application Data,' and then navigate to the folder called 'Microsoft,' then 'FS9.' The file you are looking for is 'FS9.cfg.'

Hope that helps smile.gif

Edit: I've just spent all that time typing that, but it would be just as easy to click the address bar at the top of your screen (in Windows Explorer), and type C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\fs9.cfg where you replace <user> with the username of your account smile.gif. I think that should work.

Then just press ctrl+f inside that file, search 'TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL' and change the value there to 21.

Oh, and AI stands for 'artificial intelligence,' it basically means that other computer controlled planes will appear in your sim. I recommend it, certainly gives a lot more realism if you plan on only flying offline winkyy.gif

Thanks for the help. I found the file. I do not know if I opened it up in the correct way. Used WORD. Changed setting from 19 to 21 and saved. went on to do a flight. Still used Rotorua as this is the originl and any change I hope will stand out from previous flights fromhere. Looked the same but now had a small ridge line along the side of the airfield. So another problem. Also notice that with the installation of the Topo etc bridges appear everywhere. Also details of their structure as with pylons is broken and not complete in parts. I am not going to install the Real NZ CD's untill I sort this out. I have the following settings from the top, Addon, propeller objects, vehicle library, Red Baron NZ Mesh, Red Baron NZ Topo, generic Library.....at 39 Default scenery and last Default terrain. Do these need to be altered in order. Between these are airport s etc.
Thanks again for your help.
