Using 2004 downloads flight sim x

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Hi, I am a newbie and was wondering if i can use 2004 downloads on X. I haven't done it yet as i'm not sure if it will stuff it up. I am planning to cicumnavigate around the world in my little 172 Cessna and have made it to Norfolk, fuel levels got a bit low but i made it from Whangarei Airport. Now that i am about to travel through New Caledonia, Vanuatu through to Indonesia i would like to download some scenery but alot of it is from 2004. Are they compatible?
Oh, and while i'm at it how do i paste my photos that i took onto here, i dont quite understand the 'URL insert image' icon above. I have my photos in D drive. Thanks for your time. Kiwibarguy New_Zealand_etc.gif

yup sometimes you can but with varble results ,sometimes the windows dont work because i think of alpha channels and also the outside texture look "sometimes see through "gauges also dont work "sometimes " but these are worst cases most work ok and if you know how can be changed to work ok ,,scenery is normally ok but hardens dont work and some fences or alpha channels show as black or solid models of grey everything goes in the same way but aircraft in simobjects under rotor or plank ,and gauges in gauges etc ... you shouldnt be able to bugger much up doing this sort of experments good luck hope this helps mike

PS... USE IMAGE SHACK OR PHOTO BUCKET and upload them to them once the is done it will have something like [image]--------bla bla [image ---] you then look at the control and insertt a image or just put this code before and after [image] [/image with a ] at the end like the first one,ive done it this way just so you can see it mike

Just to expand on what Mike said with regards to the pics....

You will want to use an online photo album, like Image Shack or Photobucket... I personally prefer Photobucket as it generates quick code that you can just cut and paste into the forum post to get the pic to show, but its really a personal preference... There are also others like the Google Picassa etc...

to actually post the pic, either use the 'Insert Image' button and follow the prompts... or type the codes manually:

Code: Select all

eg.

That would display as:

Have a look at the date of the upload. The older it is, the less likely it is to work in FSX. That's not a hard and fast rule though. The reason is that development techniques change over time and between sims, and scenery developers sometimes do and sometimes don't keep up. In genera,l stuff developed for FS2004 stands a fair chance of working in FS2004. Stuff developed for FS2004 using FS2004 SDK techniques has a fair chance of working in FSX. But stuff developed for FS2004 using the old FS2002 techniques is unlikely to work in FSX.

"Working" of course is also a variable in the eye of the beholder. winkyy.gif

BTW, I've already circumnavigated the world in FSX, and the best scenery investment you can make bar none is a high quality mesh. It costs a bit of money, but is well worth it. FSGenesis is the one to go for, and covers the entire world, apart from the poles.
