Wet look

A place to converse about the general aspects of flight simulation in New Zealand

Postby dazza28 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:13 pm

Hey Don't know if this can be done.

But is there a way of adding the effect of wet runways and taxi ways to airports so like you can see puddles and that icon_question.gif

Thanks Dazza.

If you use 'Real Environment Professional' (freeware), you can get a wet runway look:

I expect there will also be payware products that can do it as well, but I'm not sure of any names.

Hey just thought i would throw in my 10cents here, i as well use the freeware real enviroment pro Fs9 addon which does give you the choice of wet looking runways but everytime you would like to have wet looking runways you have to go into the tool provided and change the texture of your runways which is ok i guess but yet at the same time a pain in the ass, there is one freeware program that i found call A,E,S by Aerosoft which stands for (Airport Enviroment Scenerey) what this does it it creates realistic airport moving scenery such as moving taxyways, push back tug with the paddel man giving u directions and a follow me car with catering trucks and baggage loaders to load on to your desired aircraft, and with this nifftey little program it includes a wicked rain texture on your runways in the wet (so much more realistic than REPRO) and when you taxy down the centre line you can hear your tyres making the bumping sound as they go over the catseyes (run way lights) but before you explode with excitement there is a massive letdown, this program is kind of a payware version, as in meaning that if you want this cool feature at like Franfurt Intl you have to pay for it like paying for NAV Data for your FMC, not a hell of alot but it only limits you to using this program for that airport and being so that the designers of Aerosoft are Jerry's (Germans) meaning that only a hand full of airports (mainly Europe) have been made for this addon but more are released all the time i take it, the program itself is freeware with 1or2 free airports you can use with this tool but as i said, want the cool ones? gotta pay buddy! dry.gif, but i do recomend having a lookcey into it because the runway textures in the wet are bloody nice (excuse the french)

Do have a look mate because it is a nice program,

Peace out and Fly High!!! New_Zealand_etc.gif

I'm not sure, I haven't used it with FSX - I'd say probably not though, seeing as when you install the program, it overwrites some files in the textures folder; which I assume will be different between FS9 & FSX.

but everytime you would like to have wet looking runways you have to go into the tool provided and change the texture of your runways which is ok i guess but yet at the same time a pain

Yeah, it is quite a pain, which is why I don't use it -- I only use the dry textures anyway winkyy.gif

If you use REP be careful that you don't screw up your FS (and back up your files!) as I have never been keen on the a/c shinniness and I have trees appearing in the wrong places (such as taxiways) and now I can't get rid of them unless I do a reinstall FS9. The programme didn't back up the files like it suppose to.

It is still is a reasonable programme and worth installing for the water effects alone.

You do know you can go back into the REP tool and change tho's? if u dont like the reflections and the trees just go back into the tool file where you should have added it into your FS9 folder and then just de-seclect them and then save selected textures....Tadaa...Walla! your done thumbup1.gif

Oh well at least I can start fresh and chuck out the junk and the stuff I don't want anymore - never had to do a reinstall and I keep putting it off - maybe I'll attempt it next week.

No No dude not at all, i really love REPRO, makes FS9 look a hell of alot more realistic in FS9, espes if you have a good Graphic's card, just remember to back up your old scenery files FIRST!!! its a must, just create a folder on your desktop with something like"dazza's fs9 backups" and if all turns to custard then your saved!!! winkyy.gif

Hope all goes smooth mate!

Peace out and fly high! New_Zealand_etc.gif

It all seems like alot of work and money for something that comes default in FSX.

why don't you upgrade sims?

Well not unitll SP2 where the med-average pc will run the darn thing! must admit it looks nice, but there is so much more addon's that make the whole FS9 experience magical! and to be honest im not keen in flying in a virtual NZ desert! once Christian has tackled this hurdle of a FSX NZ landclass then i'll think about moving over....

The landclass is a fair call, Fly in Summer and things improve alot, but you're right, its not too good considering the improvements throughout the rest of the sim
With Robin's and Timmo's Scenery in places it is truely something not to be missed though.

I find that FSX has so much more to offer right out of the box. like wet look, trees, etc, etc
You need so many add-ons just to get FS9 looking ok, this is a major problem when your computer fails

FSX was unplayable for me when it was released, But since SP1 i get between 20-30 fps over NZ with sliders on full or dense
If i drop my radius down to medium or even small, then i can get max on most things. (which makes for some amazing pics)
AI is a problem though, tough on fr's, but as the multiplayer function is so good, almost all my flying is done online now.
With SP2 out shortly, things are just looking better and better (out of an FSX VC that is)

oh on the Landclass front, ive just got permission from the Ministry for the Environment (MFE) to use the LCDBII data to compile a new VECTOR landclass.....it will be a bigger file but much more accurate

Oh ok sounds good i guess, what you just said i have no idea what you ment about the technical mumbo jumbo about it but will this be as good as the free landclass that comes with Christians Payware? tongue.gif
