Ive just downloaded sp1 for fsx (took 5hrs would u believe) Ive got xtra broadband, what a joke, and have opened the download which said I have succeded in installation. That sounds good but how can I confirm this. The problem is I dont have FSX installed in the default location ie C Drive. Normally I have to point the download to the location ie G Drive. I wasnt asked for the location this time and was just congradulated on succesfull installation. I guess ms might know the inside of my pc better than I do but would just like to confirm it. Any ideas would be great. regards.

When I right click on fsx.exe in the fsx folder, the version tab doesnt mention sp1 at all. It says file version 10.0.6095. I should have mentioned Im running windows xp

In the sim, click <Alt> Help/About...
In addition to those numbers you'll see mention of SP1, if installed

Nope, theres no mention of SP1 there, just version 10. I cant remember if I installed fsx onto C drive and then moved it to G or not. The installer must have thought it found it tho. normally as its not in the default location Im asked to browse to the drive where it is located then it goes ahead and installs. Thats with all my other sims anyway. Id given up on fsx pretty much as I thinks its inferior to fs9 except for the missions. I was hoping the SP1 install would improve the frame rate and with the addition of the acceleration pack make a reasonable sim. The only thing I can think to do is uninstall from G drive, reinstall in C drive, install SP1 there, then move it all over to G drive again. Friggen pain. I hope the frame rate improve is worth it but Im a bit doubtful. By the way this is a good site and thanks for all the advise. But if noone else has any ideas I guess I know what Ill be doing tomorrow. Just to make it worse my fsx dvd has fallen down the back of my very cluttered and heavy desk. At least I hope it has cause I cant find it. :-} Regards

The problem if you install to C: and then move it to G: is that the registry entries will still point to your original install location, and so other addons will install to the wrong place (many addons now are using the registry data rather than assuming you've installed on C:)

If you're going to uninstall/reinstall, why not install it properly on G:? That way everything will be correctly set. My FSX is on F: (as it happens), and nothing I've installed has failed to set up correctly.

Yeah I think Ive come to that conclusion. What I did was just installed it in the default location on C. I was going to keep all the sims on the one drive but its no big prob. From memory most addons ask the location of the sim thats what made me wonder if it had installed ok. I ended up buying Acceleration pack which installs sp1 anyway and another gig of memory plus ati x1650 graphics card. Its all improved my frame rates a lot but I still enjoy FS9 more because of the many addons Ive installed which dont seem to knock the frame rates around to much. Im gonna try an F14 addon from avsim or somewhere inFSX and see what happens but I think itll be a slide show.
Thanks to everyone for your help
