Here. Would I be right in saying if this were restored, it would be the ONLY airworthy German built BF-109 in the world?

Maybe everyone can pitch in a couple of bucks biggrin.gif

Well, i can pretty safely say that it would be the only airworthy E model, if it were restored... The last airworthy 109 (a real one, not the Spanish Buchons) was a G model, known as Black 6 on the airshow circuit. From memory it had an engine failure a couple of years back and got bent pretty bad sad.gif

Yes, it was restored to airworthy condition by the RAF, and had the accident in the last planned flying season before retiring to display (due to the risk if such an incident occured and was destroyed.
It has since been again fully restored and is displayed at the RAF Hendon museum.

and yip the 109 E flying in the states is a convert buchon, although the 2 airworthy G models are composite rebuilds from original 109s.

Haha good to see my memory still filters out the important stuff from the everyday garbage laugh.gif Got me thinking about the new-build FW-190's that are appearing... http://www.flugwerk.de
Their main claim to authenticity is the fact that they use N.O.S parts such as the tail assembly and a few other components, as well as fresh components built per original blueprints. Really love to get my hands on one of those drool.gif And for those of you with a thing for turbine power, hows about the Me 262 resto/replicas... http://www.stormbirds.com/project/index.html

omg... drool.gif love that Me-262...

as for the 109... I was a little confused, as according to the website it was shot down... but there seems to be very little damage... perhaps 2 or 3 holes in the rear fuselage??!? huh.gif

That's in remarkably complete condition, given the state most WWII era aircraft are in these days prior to restoration.

Apparently it was shot down over a frozen lake in Russia, did a perfect wheels up landing and sunk through the ice and to the lake bed. Found in about 2003 I think.

I went out to Hendon while the family was visiting the father in law in Australia in June this year.

Massive collection of planes, just a pitty you cant see them all in their natural habitat (the air).

Right, see here!!!! Where did you read that? Converted Buchon?! Eh?

Ed Russell's Canada-based E-7 is as authentic as a restored aircraft can get! And I don't meant just that it has a Daimler-Benz up front.....it was restored by Craig Charleston, who also restored the Flying Heritage Collection E......which Sir Tim Wallis owned at one point.

Yes, Black 6 was the last original G flying, but both the Es are real. Messerschmitt-built. German in origin.
AND NOT BUCHONS!!!!!!!

You are a silly, silly person. Ende.

btw just wanted to set you straight nothing personal. Other conditions may apply.

I may be wrong, but I think that may actually be a Nakajima Ki-84, not a Zero.

Kawasaki Ki-100b, only one still existing.

The plane in question is original and is Black 6 that Fauville is talking about.

The other plane is a Kawasaki Ki-100b, as Fauville rightly pointed out.
