Special Christmas Competition

Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

Postby ardypilot » Tue Nov 27, 2007 10:49 am

Aside from the traditional November and December screenshot competitions, I am proud to bring you a one off special Christmas ‘screenie comp’, with a prize donated from our very own Ian 'Wingman' Warren! :xmas:

This competition is special, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the winner will receive a boxed 'MegaScenery USA 2004 - New York (FULL)' scenery addon, plus all the accompanying manuals and charts. The package includes 22,000 square miles of day, night and winter photorealistic textures covering 48 instrument equipped airports! Secondly, the usual ‘screenie comp’ theme has been reversed, with the rule now being that your entries must display scenery somewhere outside New Zealand for once, since the prize features a far away city! It may pay you to read the 'Great Sceneries Outside NZ Thread' to get some ideas.

Other than that, the remaining rules are as follows:

1) The screenshot must be from a Flight Simulator program (FS2004, FSX, X-Plane, etc)

2) The image size must be as close as possible to 800 pixels wide- read the uploading screenshot guide to find out how to re-size your shot.

3) Images can be submitted from November 27th to December 15th 2007, with only one entry per member. You can change your submission if you want, just delete the old one and replace it with a new one (by pressing the edit button, to the top right of your post. Please don't make new posts saying you have edited your original post as this makes the thread cluttered).

4) On December 15th 2007, a poll will open and run for a few days to decide who has the best image, then the winner will have the boxed prize mailed out to them.

5) Editing is allowed, if you know how to do it. The more stunning your shots look the better!

Remember, the only theme restriction is that your shot must display scenery somewhere other than New Zealand, lets see what creative ideas you can come up with!

US Airways 767 screeching across the Atlantic towards JFK.
EDIT:

Replaced with A340-500 landing at TNCM.

This one shows some actual scenery, but admittedly the grass is from a real photo :o :o :o

Is that an FS background or real photo?
Are we allowed to do that?, put an FS image onto a real world image?

Editing is allowed, however we have asked for your shot to depict some foreign scenery, however:

Yes it is allowed, rule 5) says: "Editing is allowed, if you know how to do it. The more stunning your shots look the better!". If I consider your shot is inappropriate, I will contact you.

EK953 departing Dubai

I'm a Boeing fan, and a big fan of the Triple 7. Given Air NZ 'usually' only fly them long haul, I enjoy flying Emirates for the variety of short haul routes they operate with the 777. This is departing Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (scenery by Fly Tampa) and heading towards Beirut, Lebanon approx 3 hours away.

Sorry you guys didn't like it.
Won't bother trying next time. <_<

For the time it took me with my somewhat limited Photoshop skills to do this, I'm not changing it. If you don't like it, don't count it. The one thing I hate about this forum is the bloody nit-picking. Did I really have a chance at winning anyway? No.

I take this to mean that the shot must be from the simulator, not dropping in real-world things, I believe it has come up before as well...[/quote]

Cos that plane really is a real photo..
Oh yup..

I have seen hundreds of Edited screenshots with real grass or clouds put in (Try the user Eyii) and they are some of the best shots I have ever seen. It is an FS shot.. just with clouds pasted over other clouds..

Why? Is it going to be a banner?

Also I have changed my banner. Not sure what to do about size. I can make it less wide (but it will also be less high) tell me if I should do another one.

Nope, the winner of the seperate Novemeber and Decemeber competitions will as per normal though. I've asked for the shots to be entered at an 800px width so that they can be viewed in uniform neatness on multiple size moniters.

is my new one alright? The height is a bit annoying though, is there anyway to upload it so someone could click on the picture and view it in full size if the wanted?

Yes it's fine. if you want to post a thumbnail to the fullsized image off photobucket- click the tickbox next to the image name on your page, then scroll down to the bottom and click 'Generate HTML and IMG code'. Then highlight and copy the 'IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended' box and paste it into your post at NZFF.

I thought Alister's Boeing looked great in Emirates colours, so I wondered if the big 'Bus could be made to look good too.
Perhaps not quite as beautiful, coming out of a typical Heathrow day, but certainly Big.

Of passing interest: this was made by recording an A380 circuit of EGLL using Recorder module, then replaying it and taking the shot from a chase plane.
(Hence the slight tilt of the shot, and framing you don't normally see in FS)
