Well ive just been playing my mates flight sim 2004 game and he wants me to download an F-16 jet but he doesn't have the fs9 disk. Is it still possible to download add ons?

You dont need the CD because the addons are installed onto the Hardrive, not the Disk

You can download and install any aircraft that you like the look of. Unless they are payware, then you'd have to pay for them first...

You can download addon aircraft/scenery/ tools / from AVSIM.COM Website or flightsim.com Website join as a member reg and welcome to hundreds of freeware downloads ,this is where you downlaod your addons free of charge they add them to your aircraft/effects/gauges folders "real simple after awhile"

man thats hard to understand when you know nothing from the start ,,you need to explain stuff like when you just started out here ,like when you started remember ???

Cheers ears, now one more question. Say, if you've got a winxp or vista do you have to download an aircraft thats reccommended for that windows version? Thanks for the help g2g bye.

Not really - almost all aircraft will be compatible with both XP, and Vista.

I suppose there will be the odd few .exe files that won't run on Vista, but I've never come across trouble with them.

Though, I think some payware manufacturers have separate downloads for XP and Vista, but I'm not 100% sure.

But if you're just downloading .zip ones from Flightsim/Avsim etc, then it won't make any difference at all.

Thanks for the help guys but I cant get a download onto flight sim2004. Do I need an aircraft editor?

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is here.

Is it a zipped (.zip) file? If so, unzip it, and copy the folder into your FS\Aircraft folder - then it should be visible when loading an aircraft in FS.

If it's an .exe file, just run the installer, and it should install automatically to the FS folder.

Finally, is the aircraft for FS2004? Because if the aircraft was designed for FSX, then there's a good chance it won't work in FS2004.

Its for fs2004 and yes they usually are zipped so I might have to go for .exe then. Oh well, it happens. Thanks for the help Mattnz.

No, the .zip should be fine. To install the file which we can call '737' in this case...

Right click '737.zip' and extract it to the current location. Then from here, you should have a folder '737' and inside there will be files such as 'model,' 'texture,' 'panel,' 'sound' etc etc etc. Just copy this folder (the one called 737) to FS\Aircraft, and it should be available.

What I'm thinking is going wrong, is that when it extracts, it gives you sort of a 'double directory.' This will give the unzipped folder '737,' then a folder inside that also called '737' which happens in some cases. Just copy/paste this second folder into FS\Aircraft, so that the first thing you see when opening the '737' folder is the 'model' etc. Not another folder called '737.'

If this doesn't work; make sure that the aircraft you've downloaded is actually intended for flying. i.e. make sure it is not intended for AI use, as that will not work inside FS.

Oh, ill figure it out somehow incase ive missed something which I possibly did. And the other thing is where do you find some .exe files? I just dont want to do much coz I have to go home in a day and 19 hours so I want to get things done quickly.

For the .exe files it really depends on how the developer wants to pack up his work. He can choose a .zip (which is easier and quicker to set up than an .exe) or a .exe among others (.exe being quicker at the users' end, but some people don't like it so much because they are not sure where it is installing files). Zipped files are far more common than .exe files, or often you will get a zipped .exe file.

It's all a matter of personal preference really, but either way you can install these add-ons easily and without troubles in most cases, and the readme always helps if you are a little stuck or need some more information.

Thanx.Well if it kinda doesnt matter what is a good website with both .exe and .zip ? That 206 on the front page when you enter nzff is the first 206 i flew in with my dad ent
