ZK-JIL

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

I've recently downloaded and have been zipping about in Dave Garewood's Hawker Hunter, after I remembered seeing one on the NZ airshow circuit a few years ago. After a bit of research on Airliners.net I found the rego of the aircraft was ZK-JIL, but the last photographs of her are from 2006.

Does anyone know what happened to it? Am I right in thinking that it crashed recently, or was it sold overseas or something?

Cheers.

I checked the aircraft register and it is still registered to the original owners Jet Imports Ltd in Auckland.

Not sure if it is serviceable or not

Its here at the Classic Flyers museum in Tauranga along with a two seat Hunter. There are restrictions in using it at Ardmore hence why its based at Tauranga but unfortunately I have just heard that its grounded permanently.

That's unfortunate. :( Why is that, mechanical reasons, costs or something else?

Cost mainly (especially the cost in comparison for the small amount of flying it is doing) and the inconvenience for him to get to Tauranga from Auckland to fly it just for few minutes flying (I am told).
