Virtual Warbirds Over Wanaka?

For everything about online flying around New Zealand

Postby K5054NZ » Sun Jan 13, 2008 3:06 pm

Hi all!

I'm keen to get back into multiplayer and, seeing as I mostly fly warbirds, I was wondering if anyone may be keen for a Wanaka (or similar) warbird fly-in anytime soon? I'm very disappointed I missed out on the inaugural Forum Field, and I'd like to see similar events continue. I have visions of several folks in Alphasim Harvards "attacking" whilst various fighters scramble to "intercept" - virtual Breitling Fighters, anyone?

Please let me know if you're keen, as I'd love to see this happen. Using FSRecorder is nowhere near as fun as I envisage this being!

This sort of event is a good idea

What scale of attendance you want? this will help you work out how to arrange and publicise the event.

Are you thinking of using private multiplayer, or running it through IVAO or VATSIM?

Once you decide this, most other things seem to fall into place ;)

Hope that helps,

Matt

If a big fly in is what everyone is after, then how about rescheduling it (or having another fly in after the virtual WoW) to Paraparaumu later in the year, with freeware versions of the airport being available for both FS2004 and FSX, and more room than Wanaka to park on the ground?

Nice thought there Trolly, it's nice as central as well, sort of an equal distance for everyone to fly there.

I'll fourth that, dude! My main idea is to get warbirdy-type folk comfortable with multiplayer formations etc, say at a fly-in, BEFORE attempting a show. But the general idea is about right. I'm seeing it as a sort of fly-in/open day, with a proper airshow to follow a couple of months or so later.

I bags the Spitfire! I've been working on a routine each time I run FS9.

Must say, it'd be nice to have TWO Mustangs......and some P-40s.....any other pilots willing to volunteer?

As I know next to nothing about multiplayer I'm quite happy to co-ordinate the displays or just be part of the organising committee.

I can do a VA 1900D display if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.

Yep, glad to see there is this much interest early on though. Soon we can start to organise a pilot roster of aircraft to give people plenty of time to prepare themselves, then closer to the date we can sort out servers and voice comms etc. :D

What did you guys want to do when you got there? On the spot I thought maybe a fly-in to arrive at Paraparam at such and such time, then a group flight somewhere, and then something else? Or just head off to do whatever you want, or do you want something more organised like the NZFF birthday deal last year?

I thought maybe we could all fly from our local or airport of choice to Para as you arrive make a low pass circle then land, have a few guys doing some displays then depart back to starting airport

Edit: yea then we could head off on a group fly that would be cool!
