Auckland 2005 bgl files

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Dan » Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:52 am

I've just bought the Flightsim Experience Roads and Rivers package and now enjoy flying around NZ using IFR (I follow roads) to get from place to place. I also have the old Auckland 2005 scenery package installed, which I like despite the fact it turns flying around parts of Auckland into the holiday slideshow experience.

One thing I don't like is the old motorways that originally came with the Auckland package. Is there a seperate bgl file that contains the roads that can be removed? While on the topic, does anyone know what the individual bgl files in the Auckland 05 package do? I've tried removing some of them one by one and more often that not, I can't find the changes.

You have to decompile the source files of the old sceneries to get at the roads and other bits that look incongruous now.
Unfortunately the orignal scenery designers have no interest in doing this.

The OTHER alternative, is to remove Auckland 2005, and download and install Auckland Airports 2006 for RealNZ Auckland by Rob Diebold. Its available on Avsim, and it has all the original 2005 roads removed, as well as the static aircraft at NZAA, and the original city buildings and bridges removed , so that there are no double ups with the RealNZ city buildings.
The airports remain the same...................

Thanks Lawrie, the screenshots show the static aircraft removed as well.

This real airports 06 is great. Most airports show no change (as far as I can tell) but NZAA is a big improvement. I'm using Auckland 05 and 06 simultaneously with a few bgls removed to stop double ups and it's great. All the FS2002 tarmac objects are removed so the AFCAD file does all the work there, most of the static aircraft are gone (only the banderanties remain and I created excludes for them). Most important, the frame rate hit is very reduced.
