Just a short note to go along with ZK-Brocks first solo... I passed my PPL flight test today...

YEAH BABY!!!

:plane: :ph43r:

Its a restricted one, as i still have to do my cross countries... but I dont have to sit another test... I just do them and the flight examiner will lift the endorsement.

Now I just need the frigging Ministry of Justice to get off their arses and give me my (clean) criminal history (application sent January 7th! :@ ) so I can send off the Fit and Proper person questionnaire... so the CAA can spend 3 weeks talking to the MoJ, Land Transport, Interpol, the CIA etc. to confirm that I am actually a fit and proper person and then they'll send me the little bit of plastic that says "PPL (A)"....

ps. anyone who lives in Auckland will know what I mean when I say the weather for my flight test today was 'interesting' <_<

Awesome, congrats HCP! Can't wait to get my license, probably spend every second weekend getting ratings on different planes or something!

Thats what people keep telling me... now I want to go and do some of that 'upside downy fun stuff' you were talking about ;) My plans for learning are (in no particular order):

  • cross countries
  • 172 rating
  • cherokee rating
  • aerobatics rating
  • night rating

Sounds great !! What aircraft did you do yr test in ?? Definitely a good Idea to do the 'upside downy fun stuff' even if it is not really your thing. Tis great for people to become more familiar with the real capabilities and limitations of both the aircraft and themselves as a pilot. A lot of people do get their aeros rating for that reason as opposed to just getting it for fun. I never wanted to get it for fun but did so to build my own confidence. I will admit that I don't really like aeros, well no where near as much as some people, but never the less I can do em when I want to. The best thing for me is takin other people up an chuckin the plane about, cos they usually get the most enjoyment.

P.S put the taildragger rating in there somewhere cos once ya get hooked on em it's hard to stop !

Congrats! And re what Ben said, it'd be cool to get a taildragger rating - I've done a bit of TD flying and it's awesome fun! Specially with no brakes.... ;) Besides, we all know that taildragger experience is good for the OTHER brand of exciting flying....

Congrats again dude! Well done, and I know we all look forward to seeing a pic of you with SillyGrinTM and your card!

It was JFY... a mighty C-152.

you'll have to go have a look at it on JetPhotos.Net... coz there is nothing on Airliners.Net and I cannot get the thumbnail link to work as it requires javascript :( not necessarily the best quality pic, but I dont like pics of planes on the ground... its not natural I tell you! ;) and thats not me flying it either...

Still, she is definitely my fav aircraft at the club... JBL annoys me with the 4 point harness (well its annoying when you're just bashing around circuits or the TA and not doing 'upside downy fun stuff'"™)... and I have issues with the panel and yoke in ETZ... namely, they want to occupy the same space as my legs/knees! :o I think the seats are mounted slightly higher than in JFY. Which is a shame, as ETZ is a little pocket rocket! :ph43r:

I had forgotten about the taildraggers... :whoops:

Trevor? Yeah he has been back for a while... with some excellent stories... and some brown trousers required stories! :ph43r: he is actually a big part of the reason why I passed my flight test...

Unfortunately, he is dealing with the sudden illness of a family member at present, so has been otherwise engaged as of late...

why? are you looking at getting stuck into it? I know that the club has picked up one or two extra instructors recently... and with 2x 172's and a cherokee coming online soon, they have a fairly wide range of aircraft:

1x 150 (note: this is a 150hp model :o ... bit of a beast by all accounts)
3x 152's (incl. 1 aerobat)
2x 172's (1 has 100 hours minimum for insurance purposes, the other is ab initio OK and about 2 hours left to go on the brand new engine run-in, so will be available for training shortly)
1x 182... very nice IFR capable machine
1x Piper Cherokee (think this is a 161model)... having a 100hr + ARA at the moment...

There used to be a 170 taildragger, but I have not seen it for a while... I think its in pieces at the moment.
