TV3 reporter just claimed that the lady lunged forward and tried to "grab the joystick" on approach.

They have joysticks????

One News said she told the pilots to fly to Aussie. Why a Jetstream? Why not a 737?

Security in NZ is a bit crazy at the moment. For instance, if you board an aircraft through certain gates at some airports, you have to go through security and if you board it through others, you don't. I've never figured this out. I know the rule is that any a/c carrying over 100 pax must have screening, but are you telling me an ATR/Q300 can't do any damage? Fly out of Christchurch on an ATR and you might get screened, or you might not, depending on which gate you board through. Fly out of Palmy on an ATR and you'll never get screened. I just don't get the inconsistency, so this might actually clear that issue up.

On the other hand, I'm sure it will serve as yet another example of 99% of the population being punished for something 1% of the population do. To this woman (and all other hijackers who are collectively destroying aviation), I say "Good on you, humans" with a huge dose of sarcasm.

Yeah that pretty mental, the gates on the right hand side (next to the cafe) don't have any screening. But if you go through the gates on the left hand side you go through metal detectors and get frisked ;)

Controls would have been a nice enough word to use. The person off the street would have known what it meant, and it wouldn't have implied the pilots had a game-type setup... :P

Yeah, to me a Yoke means one of those fancy sim controls that people spend lots $ on, not the controls of an aeroplane.

I guess I'm just pissed that there won't be any more cockpit visits for me because of that stupid b*tch. Don't expect to see any in-flight pics from the dash any time soon. :(

So true there will be quite a few changes now :(
Just walking up to the door way on a 1900 to grab a shot will get you arrested <_<

God Forbid the day Eagle put doors on the 1900D....It just wouldnt be the same. Im not sure what will really happen in regards to taking pictures etc. You would think they would still let you- Just right this one off as a "bad experience"..What can they do at Blenheim? Theres 2 Gates, and the airport is not nearly big enough for any metal detectors.

But as I keep saying, I dont think anything needs to be done. It wasnt an act of Terrorism, so lets just forget about it and move on!

I doubt they will put doors on the B1900... would that not mean they would then have to employ a cabin crew member? You can't just have a cabin full of passengers without someone to take care of them, which would be the case if the crew were locked behind a door.. I think economics will stop them. But, xray checks of passengers and bags are much more likely..

I don't want to speculate too much but I don't see why the repercussions of this would be likely to have any impact on photography. Post 9/11, NZ adopted it's present security policies (screening at departure gates for aircraft larger than a certain size). Other countries also did this, and some also tightened up on photography at airports also. In places like the US, it's now impossible to take photos on subways too. This is a philosophical decision made by the US government and authorities but isn't one NZ has taken.

NZ doesn't have this problem (photography at train stations or airports being banned by authorities). The thing here is that post 9/11 some countries discouraged photography while others did not. The countries who did discourage it were not necessarily the country where the terrorism acts occurred either. So I don't see why, just because this has happened here, NZ will change it's stance on photography.

Introducing some level of security on regional flights would have prevented this from happening. Banning photography? No way. This woman thought her aircraft was going to make it to Australia for godsake! She also didn't think her plan through. What's the first thing you do when you land on foreign soil? Clear customs. Did she think that was just going to go smoothly? And what, with no passport either?

So most likely little or no research there. I see no way she would have sent scouts out to photograph the aircraft to make her hijacking easier.

It wasn't the 'stupid b*tch' comment that made me delete the post, I originally deleted the previous post you were replying to concerning Muslims (Rule 4.
