Oh very good. I've seen the C-130 at ROT (or rather flying around ROT and the area) a lot, but I've never seen it do a go-around.

The first pic isnt very blurry. Its actually pretty good.

Still doesn't explain the mystery plane (private jet thingy) that was hanging around the other day. It also doesn't explain what a hercules was doing here today.

:pics:

Cheers

Yea, the herc seems to be a regular visitor here...

Was driving out past the nursery (by the whakatane turn-off) on the way home and it was just turning onto the crosswind leg, about the same speed as the car which was sorta cool.

Yea, I heard a funny noise the other day and thought "that definitely doesn't sound like a 737...", maybe it was TBM coming in and out again (has done a couple of times in the past). ;)

Must of being the same Herc that dropped into Tauranga today - touch & go I think.

TBM = CJ3. My Uncles brother owns it - he doesn't know me but maybe one day I could get a ride in it (yeah right!).

I haven't seen a Herc 'in the flesh' since last year's Whenuapai airshow I think.. so I'm very much looking forward to viewing one down at the Tauranga this weekend!

Mid-morning I saw another (or perhaps the same) bizjet climbing out of runway 18. From a distance it looked perhaps like a gulfstream type one? Paintwork was cream-white on the top, with a blue bottom curving upwards from the fuselage towards the tail.

Just wondering if anyone knows what aircraft it was / what it was doing? :)

As brotonee said Thanks for that link!
I will use it often. :D
Do they get information from flight plans or something?

Cheers
Daniel Firth

I wondered the exact same thing. It's too much of the country covered to be someone at an airport watching for this stuff (community effort maybe?).

Must be flight plans. :radar:

EDIT: upon reading it, every entry has "Posted by Mike Condon" at the bottom, so it's one person.

Cheers

Speaking of Hercs, for the past hour 9-10 have had a herc flying over my house about 15 times at about 1000ft (although i'm slightly up a hill so more like 5-600 ft) (apart from a break when an Orion came over gear down), must be doing some night circuits at Whenuapai. I'm in Beach Haven, just over the Upper Harbour.

There was another C-130 (possibly/probably the same one) hanging around today, it was there for quite a while. Maybe 9 or 9.30 to 11 or 11.30 or so.
Seemed to be doing a lot - circuits, touch and goes, go arounds and the like.

Daniel should be forthcoming with more exact information.

Seems like it could be a Tuesday thing - it was here last Tuesday (OP on Feb 12)

By the way, there was a BBJ at ROT when I was returning from the TRG airshow on Sunday afternoon/evening:
Boeing BBJ N164RJ arrived at Rotorua from Sydney. After deplaning its passengers the BBJ positioned to Auckland for parking.
.
