Best plane movies

A forum for everything else that does not fit into the other categories

Well it's Friday! Woohoo!

What do you consider to be the 5 best aviation movies.

Here is my list.

1.Tora Tora Tora- This is a great representation of what really happened, it is not one sided, unlike Michael Bay's Pearl Harbour. " I think ww2 has just begun"??????
Oh i thought it started back in 39' with Germany, Poland, Russia, Italy, France, England etc......
Great plane shots and definitely one for the younger ones to see. No computer graphics, just the real thing!

2. Battle of Britain- Goes without saying, if you haven't seen it, see it! A very young Michael Caine duelling over Dover with loads of Spittys and Bf109's

3. A bridge too far- You dont see scenes like this in movies nowadays. Although not essentially a plane movie, the boarding and dropping of the paratroops sees this selected for a top 5 for sure.

4. Aeroplane- "Surely you can't be serious? I am, and don't call me Shirley". Enough said

5. Memphis Belle- I have a B-17 soft spot!

NOW! What are yours? Now i love all movies from every era but maybe this list goes to prove that special effects aren't always that special.

Reach for the Sky (1956), the story of Douglas Bader, a legless WW2 hero, my personal hero growing up, friend of my granddad’s and my next door neighbour was his tailor. I have a signed autobiography from him!

The Dam Busters (1954), my Grandma was an accountant for RAF 617 Squadron, of which the film is based upon- can't wait for the new Peter Jackson rendition!

Also love The Aviator, Pearl Harbor and Top Gun B-)

I'd highly recommend a French film called Les Chevaliers du Ciel from a few years back. (I think its English title is "Sky Fighters" or something along those lines)

Basically similar in concept to Top Gun, although much more recent - pretty cheesy and uninvolving storyline, but absolutely amazing aerial photography. Little or no CG effects, everything is "real". I'm sure many people here have seen videos of the French air force pilots flying crazily low over the desert; there's a lot of that sort of thing in this film! It's in French with English subtitles.

Flight of the Intruder -
QUOTE
Flight of the Intruder centers on U.S. Navy Lieutenant Grafton flying an A-6 Intruder, becomes increasingly disillusioned with political controls imposed on his bombing missions of North Vietnam after his bombardier/navigator is killed during a night-time raid. Other planes from Grafton's aircraft carrier are being shot down by surface-to-air missiles which are stockpiled in the city of Hanoi, off-limits to retaliatory bombing raids. With Cole as bombardier/navigator, Grafton plans a renegade attack on "SAM City", a park in the center of Hanoi where the missiles are stored.[/quote] (Wikipedia)
