Hi folks,

I am (hopefully) going to finish my 172 type rating this weekend... and as such I need to do an all up weight check... Unfortunately, all my mates are either already booked, expecting to be hungover from wedding receptions etc. or just cannot make it to NZAR so early... So, I thought I'd see if anyone out there in NZFFland wants to act as ballast and sit in the back of a 172 for 30 minutes or so while I bash the circuit... otherwise I will have to hunt down randoms out at the field and see if they'll help out... I need 2 people, so if you want to bring a friend that's cool.

So, if you are keen, leave me a note or PM with your contact details and we can sort out the finer details...


Basic Details:

Where: Airline Flying Club, NZAR (that's Ardmore for the ICAO illiterate)... just drive along past AFS, The pilot supplies/postshop & Auckland Aero Club until you get to Dennis Thompson aircraft sales... AFC is right next door to DT's...
When: Sunday 2nd March @ 0900 hrs (you will need to be there around 0845, so we can everything sorted)

What to bring: Yourself and a camera should you feel like taking some pics... If you have your own headset, then bring it along, otherwise you can just borrow one of the clubs spare ones...

Well the way the weather is shaping up... I might not be flying at all this weekend... so you never know ;)

As you can see, the weather forecast for tomorrow is not that flash...



A Big thank you to James McGregor @ MetVUW for permission to use the weather chart... A very useful (and accurate) site for weather and has some really interesting photos of weather phenomenons...

Weather will not help however, I've had to postpone mowing the lawns too... :givein:
Great weather site, James has some of the best weather-related photos to be found anywhere.

As it turns out I went flying today... 3 times...

First up I did the All up Weight Check (2 circuits with some 'lucky' passengers[1]), then after dumping my passengers on the taxiway I managed a single solo circuit as the cloud was rolling in off the Hunua's and people were coming back from the training area at 1300'...

So we finished off the paperwork, got my logbook signed with the type rating and then I hung around the club talking bollocks, and sure enough, after lunch the dew point dropped away, the cloudbase lifted up to around 3000' and I got an hour of solo circuits at around 2pm


[1] not trolly who was still in bed when I called him at 9am this morning ;)

Awesome mate,

Enjoy!

Circuits sound boring but I love them. Test your skill, Down wind, pull power and see if you make it.
I always do this.

Cross country etc. Pull power at random, then look for a landing spot as if it is in real life.

You learn the glide slope real quick.

Do this every 2nd flight and you will be better trained for the actual. I have had only one partial and one full in my flight experiences, both went smooth due to this practice.

You can never be prepared, but practice helps.

To anyone who has the option of mowing 2 Ha of lawns with a fairly 'basic' push mower (at least it had an engine :P ).. Don't. Play FS instead :lol:

There are options..they come with 4 legs and plenty of wool...allows plenty of flightsimming :lol:
