Scenery/World/Texture is most likely the culprit;[/quote]
Roger that- if I replace all the files in that folder, what addon textures would I be set to loose?

If you have a little patience, you could download fs9cddir.zip from AVSIM:
File Description:
After seeing numerous requests for lost or corrupted file locations for FS9, I decided to create a document that listed the location of every file on each CD-ROM. This .xls document lists the name, size, and location of every one of the almost 40,000 files included on the 4 CD-ROMS. This file was created with Excel 2002. While it shouldn't make a difference (for file locations), this document is based on the initial "Tin Can" US release edition.
This allows you to avoid a full sim rebulid, by restoring selected textures.
Would require you to re-install the addons though.

Right I've got my 3800 odd original Scenery/World/Texture files ready to paste into main FS9 Scenery/World/Texture directory- if I go ahead, am I set to loose any addon scenery?

And thanks for the link Charl, I've saved the file incase I may need it in the future, although I don't know what files are corrupt or missing at the moment so it is of no use at the moment :(

Update- after freeing up 30GB by removing system restore points, defragging C drive, my sim continues to freeze at 51% loading. No BSOD so far...

Unless pootling around with files is your thing:
The time you've spent, and are going to spend now...go for the re-install.
Hope you have all those addons handy, and well indexed.

Me thinks that the added on folders/files remain??

Surely there must be just one or two files that need replacing that will fix it. I do not have the time or patience for a full reinstall, I've been coming home from work each day this week full of optimism that the idea posted on the forum will be the one that resolves my problem, but so far everything has failed.

Is it possible like Nick suggests, to just reinstall the 'base' files into the same directory as FS9 is already in, backing up the fs9.cfg and scenery.cfg, then replacing them to run everything just as it was before? I'm guessing this is my last resort, if it doesn't work I might as well give FS up and sell my comp, I need the $ anyway.

It may be a bit of a long shot, but perhaps try the "Quick FS Re-install procedure" documented here (point IV), whereby your add-ons and settings are saved, although it couldn't be called a full/proper re-install, maybe it might help. :)

:o OMG It was so simple to fix in the end- all I did was reset my default flight (which had somehow become corrupt) and everything is sweet. I'm so glad there was a simple fix in the end!

And thanks for the link Alex, I shall save it for future reference also.
