How do I get a game-pad to work on games?

Hi, I have brought a PS2 controller to PC USB converter, which allows me to play PC with my PS2 controller. My brother keeps bugging me why it isn't working for BattleField1942. I told him you had to set it up, expecting to find some kind of joystick/game-pad option like in FS.

I think I need some kind of Game-pad to keyboard emulator, to convert game-pad movements and button presses to keyboard strokes. I have tried "joytokey.exe" but am not sure on how to work it, even after reading the read-me. I can see to controller on the game controllers option in the control panel, and have set the movements, and it works in FS, but not BF so far.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks alot

Nick

Not too familiar with BF1942, but from memory in BF2 you needed to config your controllers with the game... I remember having to setup my joystick buttons etc within the setup options in BF2, so I could fly the aircraft properly...

If there isnt one, then you will need something like JoyToKey to allow you to translate a joystick/gamepad button press, into a keyboard input... JoyToKey was a bit tricky, as I found that it would not always give your controller the same ID number...

but I have successfully used it to allow me to create a PTT button on my flight yoke when using TeamSpeak...

No idea what its like, or how well it works... it was just a link I saw while googling 'bf1942 gamepad' ;)

Also Xpadder seems alright... I downloaded it and tried it, and it seems to pick my yoke, joystick and rudder pedals up OK... is a little confusing, but I only played with it for 5 minutes and didnt read any of the documentation <_<
