Here's something different.... Being dropped from TB-3's in I-16's.

A few of us tried a multiplayer of it tonight. Heaps of fun!

Some snaps of the maps

Hehe, the Esso stamped things are TB-3's, a slow moving (130km/h) Soviet bombers developed in the 1930's. They could carry I-16's and some carried tanks!

There's info here about them

Haha, what an unusual selection of screenshots- I've never heard of the TB-3 but it looks like a heap of fun.

Anyone know of a fs2004 model?

I did a video a while back of some fighting using the TB3's and I-16's. About 1:20 into the vid.

I'm not sure of whether there is a FS version, it'd be a bit boring to fly to be honest. The 4 props sound great but it would take you an age to get anywhere!

Cool vid, can you actually have three players flying in that situation shown at 1.20, with one flying the TB-3, then the other two sitting in the I-16 on either wing who then get dropped off and fly away?

Yep, sure can. In that video I was in the lhs I-16, another guy was flying the TB3 and another player on the rhs I-16. You taxi up to the TB3 then press the attach/detach aircraft button. You are then attached under the wing.

AI gunners man the other guns but the pilot can switch to the bomber and gunner positions at will. If you do a mission as a co op (as opposed to a dogfight), you can have someone flying, 4 or 5 others manning each gun and bombing, and two attached under the wing - essentially your whole team in one plane lol.

The TB3 can carry plenty of bombs etc, and with the thrust of the two I-16's it helps getting it airborne and up quicker than the TB3 on its own. Also the TB3 supplies fuel to the I-16's during flight so when you detach you can fly longer on full fuel.

Good way to spend a wet day

Edit: Here are some clickable thumbs of some screenshots from when we were doing the mission shown in the video. Sometimes it wasn't easy getting close enough to attach without colliding...

IL2 is one of the most popular online light combat games at the moment but it's getting hard to find it on the shelves :(

There was a thread on Kiwisim recently from a newcomer looking for it. One of the guys who goes by the name of Jaster lives in Aussie and he has said he can get it for $25 AUD locally, which may be a last resort.

The current version is IL2 1946, which contains ALL the earlier versions. The 'original IL2' and the 'complete edition' aren't compatible with what we use online.

Just a FYI, heres a video of a mission we did this week. It's only a quickie but it was fun.

Wohoo.... excellent stuff. Love your vids, the game looks bloody awesome. I was telling a mate of mine
recently about playing MS-FSim and he says "yeah, sounds good, but can you shoot stuff?"... now I
know which game to point him at
