That's what I hope to be doing next year - jumping through some Air Force hoops and giving the entry reqs a good shot.

Looks like I'll be giving the Air Force another look! Maybe I'll be able to have that cool car and learn to fly :D

Thoughts?

I could start their Commercial Pilot Programme when I'm 17, as I will have finsished school before then. I have been thinking I would do all my training privatly at the Flying School, but this training facility has interested me, to my untrained eye, it looks prety good.

I'm after the best, and the quickest, that will set me up for a good carear the best and the soonest. As for price, nothing can be to expensive for this, but I will certainly need to a student loan.

Thanks
James

Just an update re: this Thread don't won't detract anyone away from having a go at the RNZAF - just info for anyone that may be interested:
appeared on Pprune yesterday:

Heard yesterday that Eagle Air has recently interviewed 2 CTC students with 180TT who have not yet got instrument ratings

Heard from the Inside, Eagle will be putting on the brakes for their hiring very soon, I know of 10+ people that have been hired by Eagle in the last 6-9 months, and they are now getting to the level they want. 180TT good luck, that's not even CPL minimums......

Not at that stage anyway considering they are 70 hours and a IFR Rating away from finishing the course.

if thats is the case the RNZAF is the best option as it will create a back log down the line(including instructing) in regards to anyone doing a CPL ME/IFR at present - i.e no jobs for a while.

Why does everyone think people are fleeing for flying jobs in OZ, driving a single yeilds $35k a year...... with room for progression

Why? Are Eagle to only the employer who are looking for pilots?

I went to Nelson Aviation College. Had a great time, did CPL/MEIR and C-Cat.

I agree with HardCorePawn; go to your local aeroclub bar and talk to people. Start networking early on. Probably only 2 or 3 degrees of separation in NZ aviation.

I really want to go to NAC, but the cost sorta puts me off, and the fact a student loan may 'come back to haunt me'.

Ahhh generation Y - do you really think that 57 grand is not much money ?? I wish you all the best with your future endeavours, but I'd hate to start out in a career with $57,000 debt.

I guess none of you guys are lucky enough to be Aussie Citizens?? Im looking to go though Qantas Cadets. Zip to CPL with ATPL Theory Credits, Bachelor in Aviation and Diploma in Flight Management, 2 Years work experience (organised by Qantas), and if that goes well, Qantas SO Position offered.

Although, the price makes $57000 look like a bargain!! :(

$57k?? chump change... compared to a $400k mortgage! :o

To be honest... the student loan is the lest of my worries... I've stopped paying it (by changing my tax code back to M), so they'll send me a bill at the end of the tax year for the compulsory repayments... which i then get almost another year to pay... so it gets to sit in my revolving credit account, saving almost 2 years worth of interest at floating rate mortage interest rates, currently 10.5%...

And as I am still working hard in NZ, it is now interest free... they sent me a statement today... yearly interest = $3644.74... interest write-off = $3645.97... haha they wrote off an extra $1.23... :P I'm sure they'll work this out eventually...

It is not really a debt... it is simply a deferred payment scheme (now that it is interest free)...

And they cannot take my education away from me... my house on the other hand <_<

update from the pprune:

CTC straight into Eagle

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hell has frozen over lukeskytoddler! Two Kiwi CTC trained cadets have got jobs with Eagle with 180TT. Good for them!

FACT - One is my 19 year old nephew and will be the youngest pilot in the Koru group. He has NO connections with the company, NO truck loads of money and was a normal kid straight out of school when he started at CTC .
He met Eagles current entry criteria and got offered a job. End of story.

Times are changing from when you and I started, from what I observed during a flight he took me on his level of training from CTC was excellent. His professional attitude, level of skill and airmanship was very high for a young guy of minimal experience.

Sure he has a lot to learn but after 27 years in the industry I'm still discovering.

Your comments sound like sour grapes with hint of jealousy.
