75 Sqn's Scrapbook

Post and comment on screen captures from the beautiful game here. Home of the monthly screenshot competition

Was faffing about with touching up screenshots the other night and decided to whip up a quick pictorial history of the now disbanded 75 Squadron, RNZAF. I don't have a Mosquito model, or an Avro Anson, but this'll do for now. Anyone who's got a Mossie feel free to complete the album... (and yeah, the earlier pics are supposed to be rubbish quality)

Nice set!

One question: Where can I get that Canberra?! :)

That's a rather neat A4 repaint (which I don't appear to have!!!). Which one is it - and is it public? Maybe someone should do a "mothball version" repaint :@

Thanks guys.

The Canberra is from Classic British Files - it's an FS9 model which seems to work fine in FSX (I just had to give it a decent sound pack rather than the default 737) - you should be able to get it from here.

The A4 is the payware RAZBAM model, well worth the few squids invested though. Also comes in the earlier three-tone camo scheme.

Gotta love the old WW2 shots ... Short Sterling , only one model out there i guess , need more WW2 bomber , The Canberra NZ6105 served to the 1970 with No.14 squadron inducted in 1959 ,spent large time based in Tengah supporting Malaysia against Indoneasia

Awesome stuff dude, love it! I agree with Ian, good to see a Stirling! Also the Wimpy, too cool!

Sadly there's no decent FS2004 or FSX model of the gorgeous Mossie FB.VI* as 75 used after the war, but a sort of compatible FS2002/CFS2 version is at FlightSim - ga_dhmos.zip. It's in a pack including that, a B.IV and a NF.II. Works great in FS9 except you can't see the prop. Everything else works fine. There is a glass-nosed Mk.XVI as well, gvmosq16.zip, but I can't vouch for it as I've not tried it.

There is, however, an Anson for FS9 on FlightSim.com which is fairly good - ansonmk1.zip. Unsure if 75 had Mk.Is, but close enough!

*Just Flight and Aeroplane Heaven are collaborating on a Spitfire-style Mosquito package to be released sometime before Christmas, with 19 models including the FB.VI. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Nick - Lancaster is originally an FS2002 model by Dave Garwood (called avro_lancaster_biii.zip) with the update to bring it up to FS9 standards (called fs9lanc3ud11.zip - both available on Avsim if you search for Lancasters). No 75 Sqn skins that I've found (and at best I'm a finger-painter when it comes to repaints), but that's conveniently hidden in the photo.

Cheers for the Anson link K5054NZ, will heave that one out of the hangar for a test flight this weekend.

I thought I'd do the Wellington with it's engine on fire in honour of 75 Sqn's only VC winner - Sgt James Allen Ward, who climbed out on the wing to extinguish the fire in-flight.

Nice touch! My old school, Wanganui City College, was Wanganui Technical College back in the day - and Jimmy Ward was a teacher before enlisting! The school hall is still named in his memory today, and there's a very nice display cabinet with a diorama of "his" Wellington and the Me110 that just attacked it, as well as replicas of all his medals (including the VC), his logbook and some other personal effects.
