I just recieved an email from Mike Condon and the much vaunted Spitfire TR9 has arrived in the country. It is on the register as ZK-WDQ and is going to be repainted in RAF colours.

We.......demand...............pics!!! Trolly, get out there asap!

And great news about the repaint Nick! Although some may think the desert scheme is, um, "something different" :poo: I'm not a big fan, so it'll be nice to see her in RAF colours.

And yes, when I have MY Spitfire I WILL paint it how I like :P !!!

A source down your way tells me there's interest in a syndicate to take care of the other Auckland Merlin Spit.....any chance you'd be one of them? :D

Awesome news Kieran! Keep us posted - could possibly be Brendon Deere's upcoming single-seat Mk.IX ZK-SPT! No matter which one it is, please share pics when/if she arrives.

It will be great to have spitfires flying in New Zealand.
Will WDQ be based in Auckland? I presume it would be at Ardmore
Does anyone have any current news on the TR9? Is it flying? Where is it?

Cheers

According to Mike condons website first Test flight was thawted by failing light(dusk/sunset) this evening:

Spitfire Mk 9
Doug Brooker's Mark 9 Spitfire ZK-WDQ carried out engine runs and taxy tests today 20May. A plan to test fly was thwarted by failing light. This photo taken shortly after 1700.

I think it may have been sent to the wrong place, or someone was painting it after a Friday night  Looks good though. The 2 seat config will be hard to get used to though.

I heard that the test-flying was meant to start yesterday. Ah well.....at least we know she'll be in the right country for the 2009 airshow season! :P

EDIT: Yeah, just saw the shots.....I take back everything I said earlier about the desert scheme. She looks blardy magnificent!
