It would be good to just have some recognition of that by the 'Ford Vs Holden' brigade though.

Don't worry about it, who cares about a bunch of mindless idiots..

Now hang on a minute !! ............ as a Ford owner I'm quite happy to admit that Japanese cars are very very good.
But the topic and poll were about Ford vs Holden. Not what do think is the best car, or what car do you prefer.

Anyways if I was to replace my XR6 for something non Ford I'd go for (depending on what I could afford):
Alfa Romeo 159, Honda Accord V6...............the list goes on

I'm not saying if you drive one you are :D
Just if you think it's the best car in the world. There are a fair few V8 Supercar fans like that.

Mum really liked the Alfa 159 2.4JTD Sportwagon, but at nearly $80 grand it's a tad too much

I like some Jap cars (Like the newer Skylines- not R32 bogan-mobiles; Honda NSXs, Toyota Supras and that kind of thing, but I guess I just like the prestige of Euro cars (Even Skodas :P ))

Yes I guess I could have written that in a slight more eloquent way.

To elaborate a bit more, there is nothing wrong with making a large sedan go fast, its just that no matter how much development you throw at it, you are still hampered by the fact that it's: heavy, large, got 2 seats too many etc....so the development time is spent just trying to overcome the handicaps inherent when trying to make a car designed for one purpose (i.e. carrying 4 or 5 people and their luggage in comfort) do another purpose (carrying 1 person as fast as possible, using the least amount of tyres, fuel, brakes etc etc)

If you started with a design that was closer to this aim in the first place (i.e. a smaller coupe) then you can spend the development time money and achieve better results. Adding power only makes you faster in a straight line, removing weight makes you faster everywhere as the saying goes.

I'd rather have an Aston Martin or something. ;)
Actually I'd rather have a private plane, but you know.

Cheers

A Holden belmont with mags in mat black or any colour for that matter is a classic old school legend here in NZ ,a skoda was never a big car here more like a shopping trolly , reminds me of a lada or a austin none of which are bad
just nowhere near a classic Holden or Ford .
To me they are both good looking cars none of which stand out more than the other ,i liked the Xc panel van back in the day, i also like the VB holden and mark1 escort or mk3 cortina i owned too before i got my licence :P lately im more inclined to pick the new Holden shape ,the police cars look sweet runners
all to there own though id rather have a new bike if i was buying something new

Tbh I think of Holdens/Fords (Talking Commodore/Falcon here) as big fuel guzzling bricks, that are behind the times in terms of build quality, looks, and technology. They also don't go around corners. The Skoda that we have burns about 6l/100km, can fit everything in it, handles awesomely, looks great, has awesome build quality etc, and just to top it off is insanely fast (much quicker than an SS commodore, and faster off the line (and over the Rimutakas) than a 2004 HSV Clubsport R8 (I know from experience- it's ok old people, mum was in the car.. ). I can't even find a Japanese equivalent that is as good.

Oh and the first SS i went in was sideways most of the time because it handled like cr@p because you wanted to impress the ladys , it was loud and it was fast in a straight line ,bigger the catcher the more chicks around
now try doing that in a skoda ....
PS dude does the skoda have a bench seat ;) and the Gas is well worth the ladys

Yeah untill they were bought out by VW, everyone used to think that.. I remember hearing jokes such as:

What do you call a Skoda with a sun roof ?
A skip!

How do you double the value of a Skoda ?
Fill the tank!

What do you call a Skoda at the the top of a hill ?
A miracle.

I never said it was the best thing around, but have you ever driven one? I've driven both an HSV GTS and our Skoda, I'd have the Skoda any day.
