Walsh Memorial Flying School

I was thinking about going to the Walsh flying school held in Matamata next January. Has anyone here done it? What's it like?

I have been thinking the exact same thing.
I would like to go, and at this stage will probably be able to go.
Hope there will be others that i know that might do it.

It might not be that easy to get in though.

From that page, the eligibility section says you have to be over 16 (as at 20 January 2009) doesn't it?
So Tom is right about it might not be that easy to get in. Or maybe I just can't read.
If it turns out the 16 years age thing isn't a restriction, I could probably get in if I wanted too because I was in the organisation and my mum was a leader and is still involved (I may be able to get a good word put in for people here )

Yep, the idea is that even with no flying experience you will have gone solo by the end of the week, and you have to be 16 to go solo.

I know a number of people who have done this, and would have liked to have done it myself but was never a scout and didn't have enough $$$.

Two of my mates went in 2006, and now one holds a CPL and the other has gone into the airforce. I think flying is addictive

I have done it, anyone that wants a career in aviation and is still at a young age should attend Walsh.
Walsh is always a good time run by a great bunch of people, during the school you receive all the initial briefings to take you up to solo level and if you have it sorted should go solo before the end of the course. Lots of light hearted fun and a great learning curve for anyone. Tom with out a doubt you should apply, assuming you havn't missed the boat because place fill up very fast. Keagan should be able to spread some light on walsh as well!!!!!!!!!

Also, doubt be put off Walsh because of its asociation with Scouts, there are plenty of places to get in even if you arn't a scout.
