A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Blurb:
The new Qantas A380 is now on sale with the first passenger flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles taking off on 20 October 2008. The Qantas A380 is on sale for selected flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles for travel from late October 2008. It is also on sale for selected flights from Sydney to Singapore and London for travel from mid January 2009. With supremely stylish and comfortable interiors designed by Qantas Creative Director Marc Newson, the Qantas A380 sets a new benchmark in air travel. Blah blah...
Experience the new Qantas A380 before you fly.

They change the way you fly long-haul...

"First Suite" isn't that far ahead of the brilliant ANZ 777 BC herringbone layout, though.

all this fuss over the 380 ... as a kid in the early 70's all hell was breaking loose with the biggy,s in Christchurch .. a DC10 .. wow , word later on a 747 ... man thought i'd never see one off them , , next 1973 a flyover the city , was the largest block of aluminium flats i'd ever seen flyin , the Galaxy .. February 1974 .. the worlds biggest the opened it doors to the crowds .. all this yap bout 380 , really compared to logistics , moving people 30 ta 40 years later in something really not much in dimension to the latters tongue.gif dont see what the fuss is about , other than its a lot more plastic .... biggrin.gif

Basically what the big fuss is all about is it's BIG and its NEW and very few people in this part of the world have as yet seen one, the aircraft mentioned as above e.g 747, C-5(in the c-5 case not may in the north of NZ have as yet actually seen one apart from photos) are too most NZFF board members ancient, they have been flying a long time before most were born, the tech employed on most pre - date even win 95(as a comparison- i.e air nz 747-400 sim) - the a380 will become as described a 'common' thing but hah whilst not many have seen one as yet - people like to have something to look forward to even if it only is seeing or flying on an A380 or dreamliner etc for the first time(even if the end result is WOW what was the fuss about).

smile.gif trust me , when your 9/10/11 see a photo .. think WOW they,ll never fly into little NZ ... the first biggies at age 12 Whoopie they did arrive in Christchurch and they chance to explore it amazing , your 787 will have to wait it but not a big one 767/777 measures , size issue with the 380 .. yes its big , park it beside a 747 .. ohmy.gif only bigger slightly .. if it was the AN225 then i'll be a little more excited biggrin.gif ,

pss the AN124 has visited NZAA and thats bigger than a C5 ninja.gif many times

when flying outta Christchurch in DC8 s,Viscounts, and Starlifters (C141A) ... then park a OLD big one on that ramp tongue.gif then they're BIG

today we are just so use to seeing large aircraft

I think an An124 has visited Christchurch too, we were living out at Woodend at the time, about midnight I heard the sounds of jet engines, nothing out of the ordinary. Couple of seconds later it sounded like an earthquake! so much noise! (I was hoping it was going to crash into the school haha) Next day on the news it had something about it, didn't pay much attention to it. One thing for sure is that I've never heard one of them again.

Has Qantas changed their interior colours yet? I think economy had a vomit-looking-green colour to it.

True - sorry wrong about the C-5 as a few flew into Akl and chch in 99 along with USAF starlifters gulfstreams and c-130s along with a vh-60 and 2 vc-25a during clintons visit.
