Fog delays flights around the country
Monday, 16 June 2008
Flights at Wellington airport have resumed with Air New Zealand and Qantas re-opening their check-in counters.
Flights ground to a halt at 8.30am this morning after thick fog settled around the capital, leading to more than 40 flight cancellations and diversions.
In Christchurch all flights between 6.45 and 9am were delayed or diverted.
Low fog caused delays of up to one hour and 20 minutes to both inbound and outbound flights in Queenstown.
In Dunedin, four flights have been cancelled so far, with more disruptions expected, Air New Zealand manager Alistair Bevan said.
The disruptions have delayed today's Cabinet meeting. Prime Minister Helen Clark was unable to leave Auckland this morning and a number of other ministers have also had planned trips to Wellington disrupted.
Cabinet usually starts late on Monday morning, but will now be delayed until Miss Clark and other key ministers can get to the capital.[/quote]
Lots of fog in New Zealand recently causing lots of delays - maybe we need more ILS at our airports.
Is it Airways that is in charge of this?
It was kind of foggy and cloudy here (Rotorua), but not as bad as other places.
I hear PMR got lots of diversions.
