Yesterday we flew five times to capture all of the aircraft from the Marlborough Aero Club as our 80th anniversary is coming up soon.
So I made the call to start early and meet at 8.00am.
I live out of town a bit and it was 4 degrees when I left and got steadily lower.
We took off on the first flight at 8.20 and the temperature gauge at the bottom tells the story of how things were at 1000 ft.

As we did a formation take off to conserve time and maximize our opportunities, I never took another photo of the gauge but 10 minutes into it it I started to struggle a bit as all photos were taken with the door taken off the 172.

Went and stood in front of the heat pump afterwards and we went and did it again.

As the photos are for the aeroclubs use for the 80th anniversary celebrations I cant post many of the air 2 airs yet but will when I can.
I can tell you that the Tomahawk is a great looking subject air 2 air and boy we got some great photos of six different aircraft with one flight to go.

It was cold that morning. Took ages to get the Robbie warmed up! Looking foward to seeing the ones that you did with the Cub.

You might have seen us come in in -VAF (The Reims 406) at about 3ish? Dad and I flew down for the opening of Sounds Aero Maintenance's hangar.

Thought VAF was sold on for checking ILS systems in the Pacific? Oh, and got any photos from your flight?

Free booze and food so it was all good (my mate drove home so I got to drink ). Let's say it was 'interesting' driving home- Imagine Ian Garlick, Ray Patchett, Bill Larson and Peter Vincent in a the back of a car at 1:30am.. Then factor alcohol into the equation
I had a wee look around 'your' Robbie along with the R44 parked next to it- they're nice new shiny machines!

Nope, that was VAA, the other 406. But I think VAF is being sold to the same people soon.

Yeah pretty cold, have caught a cold now but was worth the effort.
The Cub photos have come out really well.

I did see VAF parked there and you guys should give me a shout when you are down here next as we should get some air 2 airs of it.
Can get hold of a Nanchang which at can get along at 145 knots which should be ok.

Yip, good night alright, and I think I caught a cold that night rather than the morning.
I can imagine a car trip with those guys. Ray Patchett is a real crack up when he gets going and the boys in the band played really well.

Sounds like a brilliant day, a free flight in control of an aircraft... and free alc... what more does a man need!
