The AI Gliders

The official Forum for the GNZLAP and Charl's other NZ AI addons

It's been a long-time thought, as NZ has some excellent gliding sites.
I've had a look at NZLX, after Snowman tactfully pointed out that there is an active gliding club at the scenery he just finished for Alexandra.
There are some issues, like gliders making engine noise (This may not be solvable, but if it does get fixed, it'll be a flightsim first).
And the invisible tow rope acts a little bit like a bungy cord...
But there will have to be some imagination in play, whatever the final outcome.
Here's a little preview of the WIP. Bear in mind, it's all AI, and recorded in real time.

Top stuff- was that just a duplicated flight path, minus a time offset for the takeoff, or did you combine the tug with the glider somehow?

They actually are taking off from two different airports, co-located, with a 2-second delay, and appropriate taxi paths to separate them.

Dunno...thing is AI sound is not mapped to the aircraft, but to the engine type.
The sound resides in the main sound folder, and is used by all.
If I alter that, all the HTAI Cessna's will sound like sailplanes!

So do the gliders and planes just do a cercuit and land at the same airport or....

How do you get the plane and glider to go their different ways?

Very smart Charl!

Some do...but the party piece is the yellow one in the clip - it finds a "thermal" and then circles up, up, to 3,000ft pretty much like the real thing.

No, lots of work previously done, latterly by Bert de Bruin, using Wolfgang Piper's gliders modified for AI.
I'm building on that work, and my quest is to make 'em soar quietly (if it is possible - that would be a first.)

I've done some, and they're not tooo bad.
FSX is the better vehicle for this though - you can map sound directly to the AI plane.

I may release them in due course, there are other things on the go though.

Bit the bullet and bought FSX and Acceleration...
I'm always keen to sign up as a guinea pig for ya Charl thumbup1.gif

Having a whale of a time shagging about exploring the different ways X handles various files and situations compared to fs9
