Air New Zealand Link Poll

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby flightnse » Mon Jun 30, 2008 8:47 pm

I am doing a poll to find out which aircraft in the Air New Zealand link fleet you like out of the Beech 1900D, Q300 Dash 8, and ATR 72 500. Just put what one you like the most and why.

Thanks a lot.

For me it's definitely the ATR. As nice as the B1900D might be, it's not very good to look at. I've never flown in, or really seen the Q300 up close, so I wouldn't really know winkyy.gif

1900s. They look good, and have great performance for their size. Q300s are too common (I have 50 min classes at school, and I can see the airport from my english class. Any given day I'd see at least 10 Q300s taking off during English) and ATRs just sound boring. I don't like their pointy tailcone either.

Depends what for, nothing beats the comfort of a ATR, but I just love the 1900D wub.gif (I have my reasons)

Q300. ATR is too big, 1900 is too small. Besides, I reckon a Q300 doing aerobatics would look pretty cool.

From a relatively frequent business traveller's point of view, I'd have to say the Q300, just from the point of view of interior comfort (leg room and noise levels). The ATR, whilst very quiet at the rear, can be rather noisy up front during take-off and the seat pitch appears slightly more cramped than the Q300. The Q300 also has such slow-spinning props that even at full RPM it's still fairly tolerable.

The Beech, while it's cool to take off in (it feels like it has the fastest acceleration out of the three) and is pure aviation at it's finest, is bloody uncomfortable to spend any length of time in. Granted, I flew NZWN-NZTU, second B1900 flight of the day and at night so probably wasn't the best experience to base it on, but I will say 1 horu in one of those things is a heck of a long time with no F/A.

Mine would have to be the ATR 72. It is simply a great plane.
Hope Mount Cook get the new ATRs tongue.gif
Mine use to be the SAAB 340 until Air Nelson updated their fleet.

I heard they were most likely to get Q400's but I'm not sure.

Beech 1900s would definitely have to be my favorite and I don't think they are that bad to look at!

B1900!!!

Fast, good maneuvering, powerful. Good for belly landings (as it could be seen at Woodbourne smile.gif )

Unfortunatly I think that will be the case. The newer ATRs would be good but they aren't a huge change from the current one.
Apparently Air NZ got options for Q400s that were so cheap that they could almost make a profit if they sold them.

The Dash 8 is definitely more comfortable as a passenger but I still lean towards the ATR-72.
