Air New Zealand Link Poll

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

I really liked the Saab 340 - I took my first domestic point to point on that machine. wub.gif
As for the current fleet, they're all pretty nice, but the ATR is my favourite.

In the future, I think it's most likely that Bombardier will win again.
The prices Air NZ have on them are rumoured to be low enough that the fuel consumption benefit of the ATR is completely wiped out, plus like someone else said they could probably sell them and profit.
As nice as the ATR 72-600 would be.

I've only flown on the ATR out of the three. Purely in terms of looks, the Dash-8/Q300 is my fave.

If we're counting old planes too, F27 and 732 were also awesome.

Well technically, neither were Air NZ link... But, yeah I'd put them both down too.

I think it'd be interesting to have those two aircraft on our sectors today and see how they stack up from a passenger point of view compared to what's on offer today. B732 vs B733 wouldn't be as noticeable, but I'd imagine F27 vs Q300 or AT72 would be fairly significant. The latter two were noticeably quieter than the SF34s when we had them. A pair of darts spinning those large Dowty Rotol props with no active sound dampening in the cabin would be interesting I reckon.

Don't get me wrong, I loved flying on the F27... I just think it'd be interesting to see how people would respond if they were suddenly forced to fly on one today amongst the near-jet level of comfort offered by some turboprops.

Hope you don't mind, but I added a poll... makes it a little easier to summarise the results... and I added an 'other' option for those who want to be difficult and vote for SAAB's and Fokkers winkyy.gif

They did that? Wow!

I gotta admit, I did like the Saab from a 'feedback' point of view. You could feel every last power addition, every bank and every control input. I used to love flying into WN in them on the visual approach when they were being sequenced. Usually got a really nice decrease in speed over Mana Island before turning onto a 10 mile final. You actually felt as though a tennis ball placed on the floor in the aisle would roll forward quite rapidly, all because of the stopping power. You were straight and level or there abouts. Final itself was always great too. They were a nice mix of 'airliner' and 'real flying' imho.

I'm sure his signature used to have something like "Q300 my name Beech 1900 my game". unsure.gif
Identity confusion?

ATR all the way.

More comfortable, quiet, better range, better looking.

What else.

Never flown one, but flown in one.

Ps, Go F27
