Ahhh what is going with the Convair circling Tauranga - now landed I think - wife reckons it was dumping fuel.

Do they have fuel dumping systems on them?
The convairs do have a few problems these days.
Keep us updated. Maybe check MRC aviation later

Here's the link to MRC Aviation for those who don't know (though most will) - http://mrcaviation.blogspot.com.
I'll update this later if they post something too.
You're right about the Convairs having problems, they're getting on in years now.

And those statements are based on what exactly?

Air Chathams and Airfreight were training at NZTG today in their Convairs.

I have talked with pilots saying that the C-5800s are fine but the C-580s are always breaking down and having problems.

Cheers

Good to hear that its training and not actual problems.

Okay thaks for that snippet of info - my wife was quite concerned something was wrong. I remember a 747 doing training circuits at Auckland one day and there were comments on talkback radio that it must be in trouble.

I remember ages ago seeing the DHL 727 doing approaches and overshoots at Auckland with the gear up, which I think concerned some of the "spectators". Ironically about a week later it really did have to return to Auckland due to an issue with the landing gear, although clearly made an uneventful landing.
