The Red Baron NZ Topo Scenery

I'm a FS and aviation enthusiast, however I've never dealt in payware addons before. I've been looking at the Red Baron Topo scenery by Christian Stock.

It says it comes with 3500 airstrips... is this very useful, or are the airstrips just runways placed at the correct place? (though I suppose I COULD use rwy12 to spruce them up a bit).

Does it work properly with a freeware Red Baron Mesh (75m or 150m for example)?

Lastly, do the new topographical features such as railways, pylons and golf courses represent an actual means of navigating?

Cheers, Brock

Simple Answer! YES ;)

Most of the Runways in New Zealand thats included are just Grass strips anyways! Maybe a windsock if your lucky.

The Bridges in my opinion are the only thing that lets it down BUT as Christian has advised me thats due to the limitations of the (USA Thinking) designs of the bridges in the default.

Would be nice to see the correct bridges but think how mamoth that task would be :D

The Roads and Railways are in the correct placing as is the Pylons so yes they are a very good form of navigation. There are a couple of glitches but unless you know the local locality you wont notice them.

Best investment goes well with 75m mesh better with the 20m I understand but dont own the 20m mesh:(

A essential for NZ flying.

I have very recently got the mesh+topo mesh package, and I have to say the topo definitely makes a huge difference.

The re-defined water coastlines are so, so, so much better than default, and the real roads and pylons make navigation as real as it's gonna get!

I am sure you will be satisfied with it ;)

Hi Brook

As already answered the airstrips only come as grass patches. There is a map though on my topo support page which you can download and which shows you the location of all the strips. Adding all of these with buildings etc would be a MASSIVE undertaking. The advantage of the topo set is that the runways follow the terrain, making for some very interesting landings :)

The topo works very well with the 75m mesh. It works better with the 20m mesh as the rivers and lakes fit the mesh better due to the higher resolution, but the 75m mesh is just fine...

The roads, rivers, golf courses, etc have been designed so they are useful for navigation! Pick-up any avaition map and navigation becomes really easy.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Christian

Absolutely brilliant...I just got the combo pack: "Mountains of New Zealand" (mesh) and "Roads and Rivers of New Zealand" (Topo).

All the coastlines become true...and the South Island scenery changes from pretty good (i.e. 75-mesh) to STUNNING.

I'll never go back to the 75-mesh.

I have the topo and mesh packaged patched for FSX.

Still works well except for coastlines sometimes, and Wanganui has a hill in the middle of the river.

Otherwise excellent.
A must have.
