Rotorua Airport happenings

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Hey Guys

I have been out at Rotorua Airport for a few hours and quite a bit happening worth writing about.
The first flight of the day was cancelled because it didn't get in the last night.
First of all the early Wellington Flight was delayed until about 10am (it was surpose to leave at around 7.40 am) because of Ice on the runway.
The ATR from Christchurch was diverted to Tauranga before coming back later.
The Pionair Convair was also stuck for a bit because of the Ice. Anyway this departed first bound for Mount Cook then Manapouri.
The Dash 8 lifted off to Wellington a short time later.

The skydivers went up a few times in the morning but this got called off because of the wind (around 20-30 knots). They did two loads when the wind was about 25 knots but it was too strong and it was becoming dangerous. They could actually could hover above the ground in the same spot. A morning Beechcraft was cancelled.
Next came the Q300 from Wellington and ATR from Christchurch and these both arrived on time. The Dash was a bit late leaving because of the winds at Wellington.
The next Wellington flight came in and this time it was the Vincent B1900D. It looks super shiny Tom.
The Qantas 737 came in an hour late and then they set out to make it a short turnaround. Unfortunatly the first officer found a leak from around the right hand wheel.
There was an announcement for this that it would be another half an hour while the crew sort out the problem. The crew were infact smoking and talking outside the terminal!
The crew went back out and one of the pilots went to investigate the leak. After deeming it was safe for flight they fired up the 737 and took off.

The life-flight metroliner came in and dropped off a patient and a Beechcraft came in from Auckland.
All in all an exciting day out at the airport.

Cheers
Daniel
