Christchurch to Invercargill in the Green Machine

Hey Guys,

Felt like it was time I posted a few screenshots and so I fired up ZK-FRE and took her for a spin from Christchurch to Invercargill.
I hand flew the entire climb, initial cruise and approach and landing to get a bit of hands on flying.
Thanks very much for Ian's Christchurch and Invercargill scenery.

Nice pics, musta been a bit taxing hand-flying all the way? Would domestic pilots in a 737 ever do that just to keep their hand in?

It's nice to have a bit of practice "hand flying" sometimes on the airliners
I read somewhere about a BA pilot hand flying the last 10 minutes of the cruise and descent.
He thinks he would be one of the only ones who does that and feels it good to feel what the aircraft behaves like at altitude.
Autopilot is good but it is taking the pilot's role away to a certain degree.
I haven't heard of any Air NZ 737 pilots hand flying the jets for anymore than the usual

Yeah...I like hand-flying the heavies on landing, much more fun and you get a real buzz when (and if) you hit your marks on the runway!

Nice On a 737 I normally do the take it and climb for the first few minutes then switch on the autopilot.
Then i disconnect it about 4000-3000 feet and hand fly the landing I sometimes have a fiddle with ILS and make it land it's self.

I think FRE has only operated CHC-ROT once before, was pretty cool seeing her on approach at school.
Funny story: Daniel literally climbed a fence to get a better view of it that day

As for hand-flying, that's what it's all about for me - it's why I bought FS in the first place, so I could recreate a flight I'd just taken. Hand flew an Emirates 777 from AKL-BNE, on accelerated time.
Nowadays I do use the AP sometimes, but I like to get hands-on with the bird sometimes and hand fly a bit.

I never hand fly the 737, I use the wilco one so I just hand fly the take off and climb to 3000-4000 ft then put the AP on untill about 3000-4000 ft and hand fly the approach and landing, even in thick fog I set up the ILS but never use app mode to pull me in, theres something realy rewarding about hand flying the ILS and landing on target in fog right to minimums.
