Qantas laying off 1500 Staff and Mothballing 22 A/C

Seems some of the dash 8's and the 747-300's are to go, it will be intresting to see what happens to routes and schedules. It would seem that theya re not recouping the cost of jet fuel form passengers, And Jetstar will not be hiring any more pilots in the near future either. pacific blue has said that they are going to be looking at routes and such today as well, Intresting times ahead? i think not, Tough Times, most certinaly

Looks like jetconnect might be getting rid of some of there mint condition 733's

I think it is kind of sad in a way but good to be getting newer aircraft over here.
I remember just a week ago JNO at Rotorua with a fluid leak of some description.
It was around the righthand wheel and they did a drip test and if it was over 30 drips a minute they couldn't fly.
It turned out to be 15 drips All the good old delays, "technical faults" were all good fun.
I have been on a few of them 733s, JNO, JNB,JNC and CZU (no longer registered).
I'm not sure what this means for Rotorua services. At this stage I am not sure if it is quite long enough for a 737 400.
We are getting extensions but I wonder how long it will be before Jetconnect upgrade all the 733s.
I just hope that they won't be heading to get scrapped.

Even if JetConnect are dumping their 733s, Air New Zealand will still have them.

Sad to hear that Qantas are dumping 1500 staff as well, but I guess that's the way it goes.
Be nice to hear them firing some middle and upper management as well, but that's not gonna happen.

according to the press here, upper management has taken a pay freeze, no pay increases, and that the most layoffs will be early retirements or voluntary redundancy, they have said that most will be lower, middle and upper management, but "some" operational staff will go, which would be expected considering they are mothballing 22 a/c

Upper management taking a pay freeze? Is it anything like Air NZ, where the top guns took a 69% rise and then a pay freeze?
If it is how you say, then that's nice that Qantas' management are willing to take one for the team at the same time as the time.

I'd hat to be one of the people layed off.
Qantas are replacing the 733's with 738's (probably soon as the 734's are going through a slow replacement)

Also the 743's were and are getting replaced anyway so throwing them out doesn't make much of a difference.

This could happen again. Qantas may need the aircraft if they have "technical faults"
