Overseas Air Shows

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

With all the big airshows going on at the moment in the northern hemisphere (Farnborough, Fairford & Berlin just finished - Oshkosh starts this week) - if you had a choice what would you go to (outside NZ)?

Mine would be Oshkosh - acres of classic, homebuilt and warbird a/c - when I was younger I really wanted to get to Farnborough to see all the heavy & fast metal ......but my tastes have changed.

Farnborough - in the late fifties.
Just think what you would've seen, and how much drama attached to those cold-war era nukem aircraft

This would have to be the air show to beat all for warbird fans , The Commemorative Air Force (CAF), formerly known as the Confederate Air Force , and with the modern airforce and guest invited .

RIAT probably woulda been good if it hadn't been rained out!

For me it would be a three-way tie - Duxford a coupla weeks back, then Osh this week and ooooooooh Reno in 41 days time! RENO!!!!!!!

If only one - Osh. Rod Lewis' Mk.Vb Spit is there wub.gif

ah yes Reno would be great - as would The Commemorative Air Force air show ..and to travel back in time to Farnborough in the 50s - all British though but lots of interesting prototypes.

Theres also the Paris, Singapore, Moscow, Avalon Airshows........

Ugly mutha...I guess the pylon racers are optimised for the job, even the Mustangs there look horrid when they're through with the "conversions"

What's so good about the Dubai one? As said before, Farnborough in the 1950-1970s would be the best.

PLUS: to see the Red Arrows perform (although they would do many other shows too).
They are an exercise in discipline, precision, and airborne art that is hard to match, anywhere on the planet.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice! About time we had a Sport Class machine for FS! BTW they mention Jon Sharp wanting to break the 3km speed record at Osh this week: 356mph! Old record was 331. Awesome! Apparently there's video on the EAA website.

Now, if we could have some more Unlimiteds (PAST and present) for FS that'd be great!

Hang on - UGLY, Charl? I'm all for authenticity with your warbird, but if you want SPEED then why not go all out? If it's your Mustang....tongue.gif What's wrong with the Griffon Mustang Precious Metal?

Not much, other than they've ruined a beautiful Warbird.
These things remind me of Funny Car dragsters - they fit 100% at the strip, but look completely stupid anywhere else...

That was a different P-51, also named Precious Metal. (not a race modified one)

As far as I'm aware the one in this thread is still flying.
