Boy we had a bad day here yesterday.
I arrived back in Blenheim just as the weather really got rough.
Rain was blowing in at 90 degrees and had it rained for a few more hours we would have been in some real trouble.

Had the day off today so took a few photos today.
Some of you will recognize where some of the photos have been taken but if you dont the first photo is seen looking upstream towards the AHC, you can just see it behind the trees just to the right so it gives you an idea of how much rain we have had here.

wow. was pretty bad in nelson too, more rain than wind tho, was pretty impressive watching the dashes try to land in nelly before they finally stopped trying (X-wind gusting up to 52kts! in the afternoon, they were landing when it was gusting 30) sounds like the wind was much the same in blenheim and welly, as aircraft were diverting to either auckland or christchurch before they started to cancel flights.

Blenhiem now has several lakes

Looking a bit wild there.
Looks like it will cost a bit to clean up.

Jeez, looks a lot like the area around here in Kaiapoi too. I guess that's a disadvantage of living on the South Island, it's mostly flat and water can't drain into the sea as easy, but up North it's a bit more slopey.

The river at the end of the street is about half a metre from the top of the bank, we're on stand by to evacuate at 3am when the next high tide is. I have my doubts that the water would reach this far up the street, since there's a bit of a slop all the way up. Although from what I've seen, can't be too sure. We haven't had the wind (yet) but we've got the rain and the rest, and I think it might have snowed for about 5 minutes last night.

Looks like you guys had it pretty bad...

We've had a little bit of surface flooding, but that's about all...nothing major.

Except that it's been raining all day.

Gav - whoa! I heard the Taylor had burst its banks but sheesh, this is not what I imagined! This.....I'm speechless, actually........looks as though I would've had a fun time down there - cushy by comparison here in Wanganui!

Just clocked the rain radar at 1300. Looks like we're in the s***t again Tonto, same sized and coloured blob tracking down. Fingers crossed it doesn't hang about as long, it seems to be moving a bit faster.

Sounded pretty rough out your way...can we look forward to some serious adjustment of home insurance premiums in the next 12 months, or will the fuel price suffice for now

Luckily for us our house didnt get to damaged a few leaking windows thats about it. I cant say the same for some others though.

Omaka was fine, as it was blowing a hard southerly, over 40 knots at times some aircraft were moved away from hangar doors just in case.
I was doing some work at the AHC and the big doors were banging loudly at times.
it was rough for a while but no damage.
