That one was pretty serious.I remember a few years ago an Alaskan MD 80 crashed because the jack screw failed.
I think Qantas really do need to make some serious changes to there maintanance as at the moment they will be scaring away alot of potential passengers.
Although they pride themselves on there "never lost an aircraft" saying, if they don't watch it they will have to erase that title.Last edited by Daniel on Thu Aug 14, 2008 7:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.

A couple of the main 'accidents' that have been bandied around by the media were the non-closing gear door and hydraulic fluid leak; these are reasonably frequent around the world and I struggle to comprehend how the entire aircraft could have been endangered unless you had a worst-case scenario come up and bite you on the bum at the same time.
Alex
Just the media playing 'know it all' with aircraft. I mean, they even reported a Qantas plane that had a 'small panel' fall off during flight, and were told it was a non structural panel, and didn't endanger the aircraft. The thing I don't get, is why the media goes ahead and reports things if no one was in danger...
With the fuel prices like they are, and the media constantly tracing anything and everything that Qantas do, Qantas are going to lose a lot of money through this. If Qantas went under, are there any other 'big' airlines operating in Australia to fill the gap, in the unlikely case that Qantas went under? I know there's Virgin Blue, not exactly 'big' in comparison to Qantas...but anyone else? If Qantas went under, what happens to Jetstar and other airlines operated under Qantas?

WHy would Qantas ever go under? The Australian government would just chuck some more money into Qantas if they were starting to take a turn for the worse.

I thought the Australian Govt owned a stake in Qantas? Even if they don't Qantas is Australia's national airline so that has to mean something
