Does anyone know of a free mb339 just out of intrest

It's in the colors of the Frecce Tricolori, and would require repainting if you wanted it in RNZAF colors, but there ya go smile.gif

You could always just 'roll your own'...

It will require a bit of investment in terms of time and learning... but it is actually relatively easy to make your own photoreal sceneries... and the tools are all freely available... hell if I can do it, anyone can! smile.gif

and as long as you're not distributing it, I dont think google are going to complain ninja.gif

It may not look as good as the stuff Robin puts out (but as long as you can live with the odd shadow here and there, you can actually turn out large chunks of photoreal pretty quick... the only reason my FoxpineX took a while, was because you tend to fly around airports quite low, you need to get rid of the shadows etc...

For general countryside, from a couple of thousand feet, you're not really going to notice too much... and I am fairly sure it will look better than the default FSX!

Thanks for the heads up. I have been looking at Tileproxy and it looks like the way to go at the moment. Do you have any other suggestions to start me off?

Cheers

I did not like the idea of it loading images 'on the fly'... my Go-Large connection is, shall we say, "somewhat unreliable" speed wise... unlimited downloads, but the speed is throttle fairly heavily during peak times...

Also, I wanted to get a good understanding of the full process (ie. image creation, image editing, bgl compilation etc), so I went for some quite 'manual' tools...

So I actually used a program called FSEarthTiles... I will warn you up front, that it is a bit of a nuisance to configure, due to the whole "you need to edit the .ini file and add the URL that shall remain nameless" attitude you will find... something to do with avoiding legal hassles...

Also, the google map server seems to have implemented some sort of bandwidth limitation system.. whereby once you download more than X megs of pics within X hours/days/whatever, it thinks you're some sort of Bot/Spyware, and needs you to verify you are a person (basically, you click the little button labelled "www" and it will open a little browser window, and you should find one of those 'captcha' codes at the bottom... not a huge hassle, but it means you have to leave the window open and the program has to download the tiles via HTTP which slows it down a little)

However, once you have it setup, it is really easy to define the area you wish to create, and it will go off and retrieve all the tiles and stitch them together into a big giant BMP ready for editing etc... You also have the Top-Left, Bottom-Right co-ordinates you will need when compiling to a BGL.

Yup but its airforce as far as ive ever been told just navy use, so ether way its part of it just lives on a ship and not at a runway ,lol i wondered when that would come up seeing theres navy written on it ,could of done the old huey but thought this was a better idea ,and seeing the shot is way outta the norm ,that is all part of the story line behind it ,kinda to get you thinking about it and how i imagined it while i made it up looking at a big old plasma screen in my living room .. winkyy.gif little more to it than just a rnzaf theme

MMM maybe a choice for next months theme .. RNZN , restricted .. be a amazing topic since our naval aviation is so small
