I herd 11th, but same same.

Its testing out the Faclitities for gates and such, which hopefully means Qantas is looking to bring the A380 to AKL at some stage.

I would say you're likely to see the Emirates one before the Qantas one makes regular visits. I'm hoping the 380 comes for a visit to Perth smile.gif

Dam, wish I was there to see it for the first time. Hope someone here can provide pics!

I've seen the A380 everytime I go to London now, the SIA one seems to fly daily in the late afternoon. Also, my Aunt who recently got back from NZ (via Sydney) told me that she got upgraded to first class on the top floor of the A380 on the Heathrow to Singapore leg- sounds luxury!

That's good. Hopefully it lands on the first try. I would hate to be one paying the fuel bill.

What day of the week is the 10th? Sounds like the date we're coming back from Fiji.

All I can say is damn that is an impressive aircraft. The funny thing is tho for it's size, the engines are quieter then the little turoprops!!

Was a huge turnout at the lookout spot. All parking bays full, and pretty much a kilometer of road on both sides packed with cars, most double parked and security going crazy. (Talk about traffic jam afterwards lol). She appeared pretty much on time from behind the buildings and trundled on down to 23L. It was on her way taxiing that her sheer size and scale was shown as she shadowed an Air NZ 737. She made a really slow turn onto the runway, throttled up (almost silently really) and took off over the Manukau Harbour.

After take off she turned north and started her sight seeing trip. Just on her expected arrival time (11.15) she re-appeared and did a flyby over the airport and the huddled masses before heading north and starting her approach (which took another 20 mins or so). She made a somewhat slow and lumbering approach and a rather gentle landing before taxiing back to the new pier and gate 16. The new terminal was opened today so it was a double event for the airport.

I probably saw some of you there but without knowing faces I couldn't pick lol. But as any half decent fan would do I grabbed some photos and will look at those a little later. Hope they came out ok. Will probably post if any good ones are in the mix smile.gif

About 30 mins after landing an Air NZ 747 took off, and we had a few 777's aswell (Including a Thai flight not using their usual A340) but even these heavies now seem somewhat small. It was a great time and well worth the trip. Hope those of you who also went enjoyed it as much as I did... cheers1.gif
